My Ruin

A Review of Two CDs

Yvonne M. Glasgow, Ph.D.
MVD Entertainment Group was gracious enough to send me a couple of CDs by a somewhat little known, female fronted, band. They compare themselves to the likes of Nu-metal, though I think that they are in a category all their own. My Ruin hails from LA and have a huge following in the UK, though they remain a more "underground" force hear in the states. The band has been around since 1999 and they have gone through various changes as far as their line up goes.

As far is categorizing this unique band, I have found the Nu-metal connection and hard rock has also been mentioned. I suppose if you HAD to stick them in a category these would do them some justice, though it would be better just to say they are unique with a hard rock edge. I find this the best description of what you will hear when you pop in one of their CDs. Their music is often brutal and sometimes tame, but always strong willed.

In collaboration with MVD, My Ruin has just released two Limited Edition CDs (only 1,000 copies of each available). These CDs are ' A Prayer Under Pressure of Violent Anguish' and ' Speak & Destroy'. 'Speak & Destroy' was the bands first ever full length album back in 1999 and has been remastered. And, 'A Prayer...' was their second album, in 2000, also fully remastered. Tairrie B. is on vocals, Mick Murphey on guitars and Meghan Mattox is on bass. Following are the songs available on both discs.

A Prayer Under pressure of Violent Anguish-

Morning Prayer (an intro)

Beauty Fiend

Stick It To Me

Heartsick

Rockstar

Sanctuary

Miss Ann Thrope (featuring Jessicka of jack off Jill)

Hemorrhage

Letter To The Editor

Let It Rain

Post Noise Revelation

Do You Love Me

Evening Prayer

Speak & Destroy-

Prologue (an intro)

Terror

Preacher

Tainted Love

Absolution

Horrible Pain (Within my Heart)

Monster

Sick With It

My Beautiful Flower

Diavolina

June 10th

Bright Red Scream

Cosmetic

Sycophant

Epilogue...

Beware Of God

I have to say, without a doubt, that my favorite song, by far, done by My Ruin, is their cover of 'Tainted Love'. This cover kicks Marilyn Manson's... butt. I am not always the fan of cover songs, especially when there is a HUGE genre shift between the original and the new, but this song is awesome. I'd recommend this CD even for just this one song!
