My Salvation is the Greatest Gift I Will Ever Receive

I'm Praising My Savior All the Day Long

Lee Hansen
When I was a young girl there was an elderly couple who faithfully came to my neighborhood. Their purpose was to invite my siblings and me and others in the neighborhood to Sunday afternoon Sunday School services at a local community center.

You see, they had a heart and passion for children. They worked with an organization called Child Evangelism Fellowship or CEF for short. The wife had a high-pitched and scratchy voice but her message was loud and clear. Her husband although of the quiet type was very supportive of this ministry.

Eventually we would go to this service every Sunday. While there we were taught about the love of Jesus. The couple taught Bible stories through flannel graph lessons. I still remember singing songs such as Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus, Jesus Loves Me, Just Because He Loved Me So, Trust and Obey among so many others.

The plan of salvation was always clearly laid out for us with an invitation given at the conclusion of the service. There was no coercion or pressure.

In addition to this teaching, my mother used to keep the radio on a Christian Radio Station called WDCX. It broadcasted 24 hours a day. Oliver B. Greene, a radio preacher from Greenville, SC. was one of her favorite speakers.

I remember one day he was talking on the topic of Hell. Although young I knew I didn't want to go there when I died. Quietly I went and knelt down in the bathroom and accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior. It was like receiving a good gift (heaven) rather than the bad one (hell). I then went to tell my mother.

Because I was so young I hadn't developed a lot of bad habits or vices. There was nothing I had to give up. I accepted this good news by faith. I was taught that salvation was free to me but it came with a precious price. That price was the shed blood of Jesus Christ, God's Son.

Even though I made that decision years ago, it is one I will never forget. In my Christian walk, I go to the Lord in times of joy and turmoil. While I'm not perfect, I am forgiven. I am a child of the King. He is my Rock of Refuge and Strength.

My relationship has grown through prayer and the study of God's Word on a daily basis. It is my spiritual nourishment. Salvation is the song of my life. Will you be singing it too for all eternity?

  • I became a Christian when I was young.
  • It was a result of the Child Evangelism Fellowship and Oliver B. Greene, a radio preacher.
  • I believe that Jesus died a cruel death, was buried but rose again after three days.
This community center was where our church first started. Services started being offered to the adults too. My parents and several others were the founding members of our church.

    Lee,
Thank you for sharing your testimony. I accepted Christ during a particularly painful period in my life. I can remember crying so much that I thought I had water hoses hooked up to my tear ducts. Nothing was wrong- it was such a relief and a release to have everything right. I no longer had to go through life's struggles alone. That was and still is the best gift I could ever recieve. God continues to work daily in my life. I love to read salvation testimony. No matter our age or circumstance in life at the time of salvation, we all describe experiencing that wonderous sense of rightness.
I look forward to reading more of your articles.
