My Service to America: Voice of Democracy

My service to America seems plain and very obvious, but to a degree complicated. My duties would best be known with my duties as an American Christian. At once, I remember hearing it is not what my country can do for me, but what I can do for it. My obvious obligations under what I classify would be that I must love, respect, follow Christ, be kind, stay healthy, vote, be honest, learn, and hold to discipline. My other obligations would be military duty, passing on wisdom, encouraging others, helping the homeless and poor, and standing to some type of unity.

The very first thing I would have to look at is what I can do to help others. Of course the first thing that comes to mind would be helping the homeless and the poor. Now certainly I can not go out and help every single homeless and poor person out on the street. I would say I could try, but that is utter stupidity, I can not do things to help myself I must depend on God for everything. Now I can do other things for them like praying for them, telling them about God, and helping them one at a time doing something small for those I encounter. Then, of course, I could donate money to my church and various charities. In doing these things I have looked out for my community.

After helping the poor and speaking about Christ, the next important duty is loving all mankind. The first important step is to care about someone enough to want to help him/her or that you want to pray for him/her. Then, of course, after helping that person, one must be patient. Without patience, caring and praying, helping another would seem fruitless because you could never see the most important results.

With love, there also comes respect. It is my duty to respect another American's right to live. One should always listen, except when another person is speaking lies or atrocities. Then we must treat others as equals or how we want to be treated and this is the ultimate show of respect.

Of course, after one gives respect, with it follows kindness. Kindness is simpler than the other duties as an American citizen. This means is that we just share and give aid. Of course, as a child, and while growing up, this concept is probably drilled into almost everyone's head.

One of the most important services and merits to being an American would, without a doubt, be voting. When I vote that is my voice. One must participate in government by at least voting. Voting is very important because it decides who rules.

In addition to that there are many important services that I must do to help my country move along. If I had more time I could speak about other services that I could provide along with others such as honesty, passing on wisdom, military duty, mediating, and showing discipline. However in the just of things along with reality I can not do everything. In the words of Edward Everett Hale,

"I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something, and because I can not do everything, then I will not refuse to do the something I can do." To sum it all up, my service to America in general is to just participate. Individually my services will always depend on my rank and position. Therefore, I must do what I can and not what I can't. Once again I remember a small statement, "it is not what your country can do for you, the question is what can you do for your country?" In this my answer is that my service to America is to do all I can.
