My Sons' Birthday

Reunion

Verna Hendrickson
I was in a wheelchair at the airport in Raleigh Durham, N.C because
of my arthritic body. Boarding pass in hand, I was anxious to see my
son the first time in ten years.
Who was he now and what kind of reunion would we have spending
four days together, the most time we had spent together since he
was three months old?
Phoenix was a long way from Virginia my home state.
Could I make the trip without mishap? I wondered a lot.
Ben was to meet me at the airport and transport me
to Strawberry, which I later learned was a city with
boundaries shaped like a heart. How appropiate and
what a pleasant place to visit.
A greeting smile when I saw Ben cast out all my fears
and a great hug made everything right. There were often
exchanges of "I love you" between us and Ben even
commented that the love was gushing out of me.
I was glad he noticed. We were quite compatible.
We saw awesome mountains together and viewed
cactus dotted on God's great landscape and laughed
and drank mountain water and our smiles were
commonplace. We went to two parks and Ben showed
me an Indian reservation that no longer allowed climbers
to tresspass onto their territory.
I am happy Ben let me into his heart and his home.
I hope to revisit my son when time and money allows
What a great reunion for the both of us.
