My Sticky Tree

Ebony Haywood
Have you ever tried to build a tree?
I did and boy was it rough!
I dug a hole outside,
Used every ounce of my pride
As I huffed and puffed, huffed and puffed.

I chopped up some cardboard and old leather shoes
And tried sticking them together with glue.
My sticky tree trunk wobbled in its whole;
I held my breath as the wind began to blow
And blow and blow.

Yet there it stood- my concoction of glue
And cardboard boxes and old leather shoes.
And as for the leaves, well that was a breeze.
I stuck lettuce, spinach and basil together with cheese.

There you have it - my beautiful tree.
I think I'll try making some flowers out of peas.
