My Story of Not Meeting Matthew McConaughey, but He Wrote My Name with His Pen!

Matthew McConaughey is, in my opinion, the sexiest celebrity alive. I have to point out that I said celebrity, not man, because that would be my husband, Matt (how's that for kismet, I ask you?). Matt is very much aware of my inability to control my sighs and drooling when I see the more famous Matthew of my dreams and, to his chagrin, his mother is right there with me in my opinion of Matthew's appeal. Therein lies this story...

On Christmas morning, 3 years ago, we were in Houston with Matt's (the one I'm married to) parents. We opened all of our gifts to each other before making the trek out there, so I was very surprised when his mother handed me a gift signed from Matthew. I looked at my husband and asked what he'd been up to, and he very innocently said he had no idea what it could be. I was given strict instructions by his parents that I had to open that gift last, after ALL other gifts were open, so you can imagine how many thoughts went through my head about what my husband had arranged.

During the time I was opening all of my other gifts, and waiting for everyone else to finish, all I could think about was the mystery gift...what had my husband done, what could it be, why did he wait until we were in Houston to give it to me? Was it some kind of family heirloom that his parents were entrusting to me? I couldn't figure it out. Finally, all the gifts were open except that one...it was finally time to solve the mystery.

His father gets out the camera and I'm wondering, suddenly, if now I'm going to be the victim of one of their very elaborate hoaxes, for which the family is known. The paper is carefully taken from the box (I'm not a "ripper"), the box top is removed, the tissue paper is folded back, and I see the back of a picture frame. It occurs to me that maybe they've framed a picture of Matt as a baby, or, perhaps, found a picture of my lovely mother (deceased in "94), but I was wrong on both counts. It was a black and white, 8x10 shot of none other than Matthew McConaughey. Now, I realize these are not that hard to come by, however...

It turns out that my mother-in-law works with the mother of a man who is Matthew's lead PR person (he's from Texas, you know). My mother-in-law made arrangements through this woman to get an autographed picture of Matthew for me. This is nor ordinary autographed picture, mind you. It seems that Matthew was overseas on a movie shoot, got the request from his PR person, and insisted they wait for him to get back from the shoot so he could personally sign it - I guess he doesn't like the idea of someone signing his name and presenting it as his signature - what a guy! Anyway, the story goes that he got back to Texas a week before Christmas, signed the photo, including personally addressing it to ME (ahhhh), and it got to my mother-in-law 2 days before we arrived.

Let me say that I'm very impressed that he would be so adamant about personally signing the picture, and let me also say that I wish I could have thanked him in person! I "nearly" got to meet Matthew McConaughey...but, he wrote MY NAME with his pen!
