A while ago I read 5 Ways to Save Money Remodeling You kitchen by TC Thorn. The article is full of some great ideas for saving little money while updating your kitchen. The kitchen can be one of the most expensive areas to invest in a remodel. With a little elbow grease, some insider know-how, and a little planning though you can save money in a variety for ways.

Here are five more ways you can save money while remodeling your kitchen. They are a great addition to the five ideas listed in Ways to Save Money Remodeling You kitchen by TC Thorn. Using all ten you should be able to afford those pricey granite kitchen countertops.

1. Accent What You Have:

Ok, so this is my number one tip. I have moved quite a bit in my life. Thanks to different jobs I understand that I may not be staying in my home forever. So, don't waste money trying to create a dream home kitchen if you know you are going to move. This also works if you are on a budget. Take a step back and look at your kitchen. What items could get away without being remolded? Better yet, what items might only need minimal money or attention to look great again?

While this tip will be different for every kitchen, you can easily take a look at your own kitchen to see what these features will be. For example, is the room a great shape and big enough? Then do not waste any money knocking down a wall. Is the lay out great and the sink where it needs to be? Then do not waste money moving sinks, ovens, and stoves that need water and gas lines. I will admit this seems simple and possibly than I am stating the obvious. Many people just get out of control when remolding a kitchen, so sometimes the obvious needs to be stated. Reuse what you can and you will always save money.

2. Do Demo Yourself To Save money Remodeling your Kitchen

Ok, so you may not have any skills hanging dry wall, but almost anyone can take it out. Invite a few friend over, spring for a pizza, and spend an afternoon ripping out any features in your kitchen that are going. You can save hundreds and thousands of dollars doing this yourself.

3. Paint Walls yourself

Instead of painting pricey painter's to take care of your kitchen walls, invest in some painter's tape and tackle the job yourself. Professional painter's can charge hundreds of dollars to paint a room. Check out some of the painting classes offered at your local home improvement store if you have never painted before. Painting is one of the most inexpensive and simple additions you can make to any kitchen remodel. To save money you should try to choose a paint that highlights existing features in you kitchen. For example, if you have a kitchen floor in good shape, but have some odd colors in it, match your paint to it to make it look like the floor was on purpose.

4. Refinish lighting surfaces to save money remodeling your kitchen

OK, so you have some outdate brass lighting in your home? Well, take it down, clean it with warm soapy water, and tape off any parts you do not want to be painted. Now, spray on a more modern finished like hammered metal or even a matte black. This can save hundreds and update you light fixtures in less than 30 minutes. So many people run out and buy new and pricey light fixture, when existing light features could easily be remolded into a modern and updated looking feature in the room.

Blades from fans can be taken off and painted as well. Just remember to lightly sand them and to apply a coat of primer first.

5. Replace the "Jewels' of your kitchen

Ok, so many people replace the door pulls and stop there. Try replacing your sink and faucets. An update sink fixture with great looking knobs can instantly update a plain and outdated kitchen counter and sink area. If you do not have money to invest in new kitchen counters, at least go for the new sink faucet. You will be stocked at how quickly this updates your kitchen for $100 or less.
