My Take on Newaygo County Elections
Neighborhood: Newaygo
Newaygo, MI 49337
United States of America
Having moved around the state of Michigan often I find that smaller areas have smaller elections. Of course, they still have a need for their "officials", better known as the county commissioners. This is a group of three or more individuals that make up the local governing factor. This years elections of county commissioners in Newaygo county is a bit lack-luster. With seven districts all of four of them only have one candidate currently running, making for a short race to the finish line. Two other districts only have two republicans running against each other. Unless more people opt in for this two-year termed position it will seem like an easy vote to the people of Newaygo county.

The big race this year is for Michigan Governor. With five republicans and two democrats in the running it is really hard to say where the shoe will fall. I believe that it is important to be an educated voter, so I took the time myself to get information on each candidate and chose the one that fit my goals for our state. In my opinion, the best candidate for Michigan's next Governor is Rick Snyder. Yes, it is time to put a nerd in charge. If you look at Rick's stats you just may agree with me, unless you vote Democrat. If that's the case their isn't much I can do to help you. My choice of Rick relies on his goals of re-vamping Michigan in it's entirety. I also like that he is in favor of stem cell research. Most Republican candidates are against this, making Rick a real jewel among stones.

Other elections that us Newaygo county folk will be voting on are U.S. Representative in Congress, State Senator and State Representative. The Democratic party in Michigan seems to have fallen by the way side as of late. For our U.S. Rep. in Congress we have a mere duo of Democrats with interest in the position, while there are seven Republicans who have interest in this seat. Only one of each party Is looking to hook the seat of State Senator and State Rep. is one Democrat to four Republicans.

Why is it that the Democrats have "gone into hiding" so to speak? Or too many years now our state has been run by the not so watchful eye of Governor Jennifer Granholm. We have seen our economy plummet, our jobs sent overseas and our businesses closed. We have lost our homes, gone begging for food and had to fight harder for the freedoms that should have already been ours. Do you not think it is time for some change in Michigan's government?
