My Take on Roy Barnes Spending a Million Dollars More on His Campaign Than Nathan Deal with Less to Show for It

I'm a woman so I'm all into spending money. But I'm hard pressed to figure out why Roy Barnes thinks I should vote him into the governor's seat in Georgia when he is outspending Nathan Deal by a million dollars yet he has less to show for it, according to the campaign finance numbers reported by the AJC.

Can you imagine if you came home and told your husband you got $50 worth of groceries for the $100 you spent? He'd most definitely want to take over the grocery shopping in the future. The same is true when you compare Roy Barnes' spending to Nathan Deals in this election.

As a Georgia woman I know how to scrimp and save and spread my meager earnings as far as I can. That is especially true in this dire economy. So when I think about voting a man into office who will be responsible for budgetary matters on such a much larger scale, I think a man who is a tightwad would be better than a spendthrift.

Looking at it that way, and knowing that the AJC just reported that Roy Barnes has spent a million dollars more than Nathan Deal so far in this race for the governor's seat, I have to ask, "What did Barnes spend it on, since Deal has a higher poll rating that he does?"

When I go shopping I search out the best buy, clip coupons, and basically try to stretch that dollar as far as it will go. I come home feeling a bit prideful when I've gotten quality for less. But Roy Barnes has spent a whopping one million dollars more than Nathan Deal in this gubernatorial race and is still trailing in the polls.

Roy Barnes has not gotten quality for less. It is Nathan Deal who has achieved that distinction, in my opinion. Nathan Deal has managed to dodge some negative smear campaign talk about his daughter--and his financial help to her--while still spending a million dollars less to do it, and gaining back his poll lead.

Now that's some spancy, smancy wheeling and dealing financially, in my book. We should put a man like that in office just to see how far he stretches our Georgia dollars now. We certainly know what we will get if Roy Barnes gets into office: a spender without a good return for his investment.
