Jennifer Wright
Even if the movie is a comedy with absolutely no heartwarming moments, it still might trigger a memory from your own youth. Below is a compiled list of my favorite coming of age movies, in Coming of age movies are usually movies that touch a person's heart in one way or another. no particular order.

"Dirty Dancing." Starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey "Dirty Dancing" is a good romance movie, especially for those who like dancing. Jennifer Grey plays "Baby" who is spending the summer at Kellermans Resort. Soon Baby meets Johnny Castle, the dance instructor who changes her world.

"Dazed and Confused." "Dazed and Confused" starring Jason Landon, Wiley Wiggins, Rory Cochrane, Milla Jovovich and Joey Lauren Adams, is set in 1976 and for some may bring back some fun memories of the good ole days. "Dazed and Confused" explores the last day of school through the eyes of several different teenagers.

"Superbad." "Superbad" stars Michael Cera, Jonah Hill and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. This is one of the best comedy movies of 2007 and is the tale of three guys in their senior year at high school, just trying to get some alcohol and get to a party. But, things don't always turn out the way you want them to, especially for these three.

"Stand by Me." Nothing says coming of age like finding a dead body with your best friends. "Stand by Me" is a movie about young boys who set off on an adventure to see a dead body, but in the long run they end up going through a lot more than finding a corpse.

"American Pie." A great coming of age movie is "American Pie." This movie is basically about a bunch of sex obsessed teenagers who go through all kinds of mishaps because they made a bet to get a girl in bed before the prom.

"Mermaids." "Mermaids" is a coming of age movie starring Cher and Winona Rider. In "Mermaids" Winona Rider plays a girl who is determined to be a devout Catholic woman, that is...until she meets the local grounds keeper for the nearby convent, who also drives the school bus. Her mother (Cher) is a frivolous, embarrassing woman and her sister is bound to be a champion swimmer.

"The Breakfast Club." Another great coming of age movie is "The Breakfast Club." This movie was released in 1985. In this comedy/drama five very different teens are thrown together into detention. It is up to them to get past the stereotypes of their clicks and open up to each other.

"16 Candles." "16 Candles" is a coming of age movie was released in 1984 and stars Molly Ringwald as Samantha. Samantha's path to being a woman isn't as smooth as she would like it to be, considering everyone is so excited about her sister's wedding that they forget her birthday.

"Goonies." Now coming of age with a pirate ship full of gold is the way to do it. "Goonies" was released in 1985 and is about a bunch of misfits they call the "Goonies." These kids are trying to save their homes and decide to go on a treasure hunt for a lost pirate ship. On their journey a family of criminals is after them and in the end, they all end up growing up a bit faster than they should have.

"Old Yeller." "Old Yeller" is a coming of age movie about a young 15 year old whose father is away and he has to take care of the farm. During this time a stray dog wanders around and everyone quickly takes to him. But, sadly the dog gets rabies after fighting off a wolf and the young man has to shoot him. Don't forget your tissues for this one.
