First off, "How Far We've Come" the first of their latest release Exile on Mainstream, a very upbeat and energetic song about the end of the world. It's more or less the band looking back on their own history amazed at how much they have changed as well as how much the world has changed since they got started.
Secondly I love "Bright Lights" from More Than You Think You Are. This song is so romantic and powerful at the same time. In my own opinion it is a song about loving and letting go. Ever since the first time I heard it, it has hit that chord every time.
My third favorite song by mb20 is "You Won't Be Mine" from their second release, Mad Season. Another song of heartache and heartbreak. The phrasing in this song was perfect for the emotions conveyed.
Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth favorite songs are all from the same album. Yourself Or Someone Like You, which was the band's first release, also happens to remain my favorite of them all.
The fourth song on my list is "3 AM" is probably one of the best known songs from Matchbox Twenty. "3 AM" is a great song because of how it makes me feel. Even though it seems to be a song of almost hopelessness, there is still something to dream on.
"Push" is the next on my list at number five. I've always just loved the way it sounded, I never really paid too much attention to what it was about. Still what I found out was quite interesting, and has made the song even better in my eyes. "Rob says the song is about a mean girl he dated, and he just switched the pronouns."1
Sixth on my little list is "Back 2 Good". For some reason it, like "3 AM" and "Bright Lights", seems to have an unhappy undertone. Of course that doesn't stop me from seeing a happy thing in it, but in this one case, the happy part isn't very big. Still a great song.
Number seven, "Real World", is just a fun song in general. It throws out a series of "what if" questions that just make you smile. Of course this may also be my seventh song because the video about killed me with laughter. I'm still truly a fan of this song, even as silly as it is.
Eighth on my list and still from Yourself Or Someone Like You is "Long Day". There have been more than a few days in my life where this song just happened to be the entire soundtrack. I have more than often felt that this is the theme song of every person in the world at some point in time.
The song at the ninth spot on my list is "Crutch" from Mad Season. This song struck me as another angry song, one where you don't want to be the one being leaned on, one where you no longer want to be the only person that can be depended on.
Last on my list is "Disease" from More Than You Think You Are for one reason. Rob Thomas and Mick Jagger, of Rolling Stones fame, co-wrote the song. I love the style of the song, it's upbeat yet has a throwback to another time in the music industry.
There you go, hope my list holds up for others, but remember, this is just for fun.
