My Thanksgiving Recipes

3 of My Favorite Foods that I Fix for Thanksgiving Dinner

wendy van
Thanksgiving is almost here and it is time to start thinking about planning our menu. I wanted to share three of my favorite foods that I fix every year for my family at this time. They are easy and inexpensive to make. I think that your family will love them too.

The first food that I make for my family is an old family favorite. I grew up eating this one with my brother and sisters. We called it Yum-Yum salad.

This is what you will need:

Pistachio pudding

Whip cream

Coconut

Walnuts

Pineapple

Miniature Marshmallows

How to Make

  1. Take your pistachio pudding mix and add it to your whip cream. Do not make the pudding. You are using it dry. Be sure to keep the whip cream fluffy.
  2. Next you can add in as much coconut, walnuts, marhshmallows, and chunks of pineapple as you would like.
  3. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours

You now have a very yummy dessert. That is why my family calls it Yum-Yum salad.

The second food that I would like to tell you about is Sweet Potatoes. This is my mother-in-laws recipe. My husband won't eat anything else but these.

This is what you will need:

Canned yams

Brown sugar

Applesauce

Marshmallows

Pineapple

How to Make

  1. Mash your yams until there are no more chunks.
  2. Add brown sugar, applesauce, and pineapple according to how much you would like.
  3. Place your potatoes in the oven at 400 degrees. I usually have them in there for about 30 minutes.
  4. Half way in between, you can put your marshmallows on top. Or if you would like you can use miniature marshmallows and stir them in when you are putting all of the other ingredients in. I like them this way because it makes them seem more candied.

The last food that I want to tell you about is my Stuffing. I love sweet stuffing. I have a sweet tooth. I can't help that.

This is what you will need:

Cornbread stuffing

Celery

Raisins

Cranberries

Chicken broth

Onion

Butter

How to Make

  1. Sauté your celery and onion in your butter just until they are a little soft.
  2. Add in your raisins, cranberries and lightly sauté them. Not too long.
  3. Next add in your chicken broth. Bring this and all ingredients to a simmering boil.
  4. When the liquid mixture is really hot, you can add in your breading (cornbread stuffing).

Your stuffing should be nice and moist and tasty. If it is too dry go ahead and add a little bit more of your chicken broth and reheat.

I get so many compliments from these three foods every Thanksgiving. My family and friends just love these recipes. They are constantly asking me how I made the yummy foods. Try them. I know that your family is going to just gobble them up.
