My Top 10 Favorite Bob Marley & the Wailers Songs

Pamela Pleasant
Bob Marley and the Wailers started becoming popular around the world in the early 1970's. They introduced reggae music to the public. They continued to put out hit after hit until Bob Marley's death in May of 1981. The album "Legend" is one of the top selling albums ever, with an estimated ten million copies sold in the United states alone.

Bob Marley is much more then a musician. When you listen to the lyrics of his songs you will immediately realize how spiritual he is. They contain stories and lessons of how people should treat each other, along with his never ending praise for God. These profound lyrics have transcended religions and beliefs and taught people to embrace love and peace as a way of life.

These are my favorite Bob Marley and the wailers songs.

1. One Love is a happy upbeat song from the Exodus album recorded in 1977. It talks about the world getting together to praise God. The most significant line from the song for me is, pity on those whose chances grow thinner, there is no hiding place form the father of creation.

2. Redemption song is a slow and intense song from the album Uprising recorded in 1979. It is about overcoming situations and freeing your own mind. By forgiving and being at peace with the past, we can be at peace with ourselves in the present. No matter what situation we are in.

3. Three little birds, is a happy song from the 1977 album Exodus. It is my favorite Bob Marley song. With very simple lyrics, to me it describes waking up in the morning and being happy to alive. Also being grateful to see the sun rise and being able to enjoy another day.

4. Get up stand up is another very straight forward song recorded in 1973 on the Burning album. It is about finding happiness in this lifetime, instead of waiting to die and go to heaven. It is about fighting injustices to have a better life.

5. War was recorded in 1976 and is on the album Songs of Freedom. It is probably the most honest depiction of the reasons for war ever written. It is one of Marley's most powerful songs.

6. Jamming is on the Exodus album and was recorded in 1977. It is an upbeat song about getting together and praising God. Although it has a spiritual message, it is light and has a great beat.

7. Could you be loved is a strong song from the Uprising album recorded in 1979. The song is interesting in the way it describes getting and receiving love. One of the lines is simply, "Love your brother man", which is truly the way to receive love. If you put love out, it will come back.

8. Satisfy my soul is on the album Kaya and it was recorded in 1978. Although most Marley songs are spiritual, this is a love song. It is simple, beautiful and to the point.

9. Turn your lights down low is also on the exodus album recorded in 1973. This is another love song that is very romantic. It has a sweet message.

10. Who the cap fit appears on the Bob Marley and the Wailers album recorded in 1971. It is a song about the meaning of the quote, "what comes around goes around" and to be careful of the people who you associate with.

Bob Marley and the Wailers music is by far the most spiritual, inspirational music I have ever heard. It contains messages that should be heard by everyone. No matter what denomination or religious belief.

I didn't realise that Redemption Song was originally sung by Bob Marley. I've heard other versions that were really good, but I don't think I've heard the original.
