My Top 5 Board Games

Board games are fun for everyone. Any night can be turned into family night by simply adding a board game. Board games have been around for years and are a great way to stay entertained. Everyone has their choice of favorites as well as myself. Here are the ones that have always been my favorite to play.

Monopoly. I'm almost certain that everyone loves Monopoly. It's always been a favorite of mine. I love playing with the fake money and "buying" properties, and my favorite part of the game would be when my opponents are "sent to jail". According to Hasbro, Monopoly is the most played "commercial" board game in the world. It was first introduced in 1935 and approximately 750 million people have admitted to playing the game.

Checkers. For as long back as I can remember, I recall playing Checkers. It's a fairly easy game which is why I've always liked it. It's not complex at all to play and is a two player game. In Checkers, both sides of the board you have game pieces that you simply move forward trying to "jump" your opponents pieces. After a piece has been "kinged" it can also move backwards. Checkers is played world wide and is fun for people of all ages.

Candy Land. It has been a favorite of mine since I was just a child. It's a very simple game and doesn't require any reading skills and you only need very little counting skills to play this game. Candy Land was made in the 1940's and has been a popular game for small children every since. It is easily played by choosing a card and moving to that color space. In my opinion, Candy Land will never go out of style.

Clue. This is a very fun game where players try to guess who killed who using what weapon. It's pretty simple and can last up to 45 minutes or so. The American version of the game was introduced in 1985. Since then there have been several television and game shows that were based on the game.

Yahtzee. This is another one of my most favorite board games. I can recall my family getting together at nights playing this game for hours, which is probably why I love it so much. The present day version of Yahtzee was introduced in the 1950's. In Yahtzee, there are scorecards and five dice. The dice are rolled three different times and you try to get one of the combinations that are explained on the score cards. It's a very simple yet fun game that can have you playing for hours.
