My Top 5 Favorite AC 4th of July Articles

Antoinette McGowan
With the 4th of July coming up, there are many articles on AC pertaining to the 4th of July. You can find articles on everything to do with the holiday such as crafts, party ideas, recipes and places to visit. While all of these are great articles with many talented writers bringing them to us, I wanted something more for my reading on the 4th of July. I wanted something beyond the well known normal holiday articles. While searching around and reading countless articles, I came across 5 great articles that went beyond party suggestions, recipes and celebration locations. These 5 articles are my favorite Top 5 AC articles surrounding the 4th of July.

1.4th of July Memories
By towongfoo27

This article caught more than just my attention, it really captured my heart. In this heartfelt article a soldier recounts coming home from Korea on the 4th of July. Laugh as he recounts forgetting his plane ticket home amidst all the excitement of going home for the 4th of July. The writer takes you through a recount of his family's celebration and what the 4th of July means to him. Go beyond the normal recounts of holiday celebrations and see what family really means on this holiday.

2. How to Keep Your Child Safe in Large Crowds during the 4th of July
By Christie Silvers

This is a wonderful and very useful article for any parent or grandparent taking children out to celebrate the 4th of July celebrations. I am a parent of small children and personally have used some if not all of these suggestions at one point or another when going out and about in large crowds with my children. It only takes a second to lose your child for a short period of time if not forever. The writer touches on how children can wander off and become lost or how a person can walk off with your child before you know it. Large crowds bring out all sorts of people and parents should take all measures to keep the holidays fun and safe for their family.

3. What Are the Merits of a July 4th Wedding Date
By HMMH

With breaking with what would be a traditional style of writing for the holiday, this writer really caught my interest. I see lots of articles that speak on parties, fireworks, barbeques and all the other such topics that are for the July 4th holiday. I found that reading an article that looked at a nice July 4th wedding to be a big treat over the rest of the holiday articles. The writer did not tell you exactly how to throw a July 4th wedding, but instead pointed out all the upsides and downside to throwing a wedding on July 4th.

4. Memorial Day and Independence Day: History and Tradition
By Pamela Eckelbarger

This is a wonderful article detailing the reason for each patriotic holiday. Learn about the traditions surrounding each holiday. Great trivia information on when each holiday began and which states first celebrated these holidays. The writer did a great job creating this article with all the information in an easy to read and enjoy format. This article is a great read for anyone who is interested in history and historical traditions.

5. Lost II: Lost a Common Cultural Knowledge
By Jim Stillman

The writer did a great job showing how lax many people are now a days on basic knowledge of our country. After doing a brief informal survey of questions, the writer found that a large amount of people did not know the answers to questions such as 'When America declared Independence from Great Britain' or even 'How many stripes on the flag'. There are various questions and showing of people lack of knowledge on these questions that do not have to do with the 4th of July. The reason then that I added this article to the list is that all of this knowledge pertains to us as a country and our history. The 4th of July was the birth of our country, all the other knowledge offered to you in this article should be our countries pride as we have grown from an infant vulnerable country to a full-grown strong free country.
