5. Blind Side
Number five on my list is the movie "The Blind Side." Directed by John Lee Hancock, this movie is so captivating that you will want to watch it over and over again. We privileged to seeing Sandra Bullock's academy award winning best actress in her role of the spitfire Leigh Ann Tuohy. This feel good movie will warm your heart to so much and teach you a valuable lesson in helping others in need.
4. Avatar
On my list of the top five movies of 2009, I have James Cameron's "Avatar" at number four. This movie shows a completely new technology on the horizon. The captivating 3-D and computer-generated world show you how it beat out "Titanic" for the box office record. Sam Worthington, who is becoming the new "go to action movie guy", plays the main role in "Avatar". Worthington's performance, along with many others, shows yet another reason instantly fall in love with this movie.
3. Law Abiding Citizen
The three spot on my list is the non-stop thriller "Law Abiding Citizen." From beginning to end this movie is action all the way. Gerard Butler does an excellent job of converting to a "bad guy" role that is still justified in certain ways. The counterpart to Butler in the movie is Jamie Fox who plays the district attorney consumed with nothing but his conviction record. The two go well together and show off an acting force many directors and actors dream of finding.
2. Star Trek
A great movie but still number two on my list has to be Star Trek. This movie, directed by J.J. Abrams, can captivate anyone looking for any movie genre. The general misconception is that Star Trek is a sci-fi movie, but if you are thinking this then you are sadly mistaken. Star Trek has everything from thrilling action scenes, overwhelming drama, to even that of slight comic relief. Chris Pine plays Captain James T. Kirk does a stunning job capturing the cocky young icon of this television and movie series while Zachary Quinto plays a wonderful over eager Spock desiring to do nothing but what he thinks is right (or logical). Eric Bana is also in Star Trek and shows us his great ability to adapt to such an evil adversary, while Leonard Nimoy also makes a special appearance as his usual Spock character in the movie. This movie blew me away and I strongly urge you to try it, because it will surely make a great impression on you.
1. Sherlock Holmes
My movie of the year vote goes for "Sherlock Holmes". "Sherlock Holmes" was directed by Guy Richie who directed such movies as "Snatch", "Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels", and "Rock-N-Rolla". Richie has been making great movies for years and Sherlock Holmes is another one he can add to his list. Robert Downey Jr. puts forth an excellent performance to the delightful Holmes character making him seem so rugged and egotistical but yet a genius whose main desire is to put away bad people rather than feed his ego. Jude Law's role of the loyal and highly capable Dr. Watson brings this movie to a completely new level of appeal.
