My Top 5 TV Guilty Pleasures

Sloppy Kitchens, Beheadings and AC Slater

Becca Swanson
If you know me (or my writing), you may get the impression that I like the CBS comedy "How I Met Your Mother." A lot.

But that isn't the only TV show I watch.

I admit it. I do have, what you could call, guilty pleasures. See, there's a big difference between "How I Met Your Mother" and the five TV shows listed below. I'm not embarrassed to be a hardcore fan of "HIMYM." But for my TV favorites below, there's a twinge of embarrassment associated with each one of them.

I'm sure you closeted "Glee"-kers know what I'm talking about! Check out my top 5 TV guilty pleasures and let me know if you're a fellow fan:

1. "Kitchen Nightmares" (Fox)

Thank God for Hulu and Gordon Ramsay. I can happily spend an evening, writing, doing chores or other work, while Ramsay hurls insults at restaurant owners and calls their food "disgusting" and "rancid."

2. "Saved by the Bell" (TBS)

Being a child of the 80's, I have a feeling I'm not alone in this guilty pleasure. I have a secret suspicion that almost all people my age are secretly DVRing "Saved by the Bell" when reruns are shown on TBS each weekday morning.

3. "Highlander: The Series" (Netflix)

Immortals, beheadings, lightning, historical reenactments, Scottish accents and Queen. What more can you ask for in a TV show? I don't care if the late '90's acting isn't completely up-to-par, "Highlander" is my late-night Netflix Instant Watch guilty pleasure. And it should be yours too.

4. "Hoarding: Buried Alive" (TLC)

There's something a little bit satisfying about watching other people in a worse mess than you are. I'm not saying it's nice. Just (somewhat) satisfying.

5. "Deadliest Warrior" (SpikeTV)

Let me just say - right off the bat - "Deadliest Warrior" is awesome. I'm a little ashamed to say that because I'm an overprotective mom of two little boys whom I teach not to fight, tackle each other or get hurt in any way. But it's totally my guilty pleasure to see which historical figures and weapons of destruction will break more bones, tear through more muscle and kill faster. Is that an oxymoron?

By the way, I'm currently drooling over the idea of watching "Roman Centurion vs. Rajput" once the kids go to bed tonight.

What are your favorite TV guilty pleasures? Do "19 Kids & Counting," "Ghost Adventures," or "iCarly" make the list? Don't be ashamed, comment below!

I so totally cherish the Highlander jacket my brother gave me. Awesome show - lots of thoughts - gave a real perspective to the problem of being immortal.

I love Parenthood and Modern Family. So sad Friday night Lights is going off the air. Oh, and I watch Pretty Little Liars. Yet, I admit it.
