5. Wedge
A wedge is similar to a block, but its not as thick and it's triangular in shape. Wedges are useful because are a great aid for a variety of poses. For example, its especially helpful for forward bend poses or when I sit with my legs out in front of me. It keeps my back straight and prevents me from overstretching. I also use it under my heels when I squat, or when my wrists are tight.
4. Yoga Ball
When I use a yoga ball, I get a complete workout. It keeps my yoga routine interesting and fun because I am not doing the same thing every workout. It took about two workouts before I got the hang of it but now I love it. I mostly use it to work on my abs, arms, and legs. It has also improved my balance and its great for stretching.
3. Strap
My yoga strap has greatly improved my flexibility, especially with touching my fingers behind my back. It also deepens my stretch, keeps my shoulders relaxed, and allows me to stay in a pose for a longer period of time. I like the longer straps so I can adjust the length since I am more or less flexible in certain poses. When I became more advanced, I used the strap to step into more challenging poses.
2. Bolster
You can use a bolster to replace a blanket for extra support. A good quality bolster can cost well over 40 dollars but its worth the extra money. I think its more comfortable than a blanket because of the additional cushion it provides. The flat surface makes its perfect for spinal stretches and for relaxation pose at the end of my workout.
1. Sticky Mat
Nothing is more annoying than my feet sliding around on my mat because I am sweating. A sticky mat prevents slipping from perspiration. As an added bonus, it stays flat while practicing on carpet. Just like the bolster, a good quality sticky mat usually costs over 40 dollars but its well worth it. This is especially true for downward poses when both hands and feet are on the mat.
