1. Use scented items throughout your home! As one may recall, smell is the strongest memory indicator in the human body. Therefore, it is up to you to be armed with pleasantly scented objects. Glade Plug-ins are an excellent source of happy smelling air fresheners that offer lovely holiday scents. Candles are also an excellent way to leave your home smelling fresh for guests. I would recommend candles simply for the fact that they give off the air of warmth and comfort while venting an enjoyable smell. Use candles that enhance the Christmas spirit, such as peppermint, cinnamon, evergreen or hazelnut. Each of these smells have a unique ability to harvest Christmas cheer within one's spirit.
2. Buy a new vacuum bag for your vacuum cleaner and use it during the holidays. You would be surprised how fresh the air smells after you have removed your old vacuum bag and replaced it with a new one. Of course, to make use of your new vacuum bag, you must vacuum. Vacuuming is the quickest way to give the appearance of something being clean. A well-vacuumed floor tells the person visiting "Alright, he/she took the time to prepare the home for my visit". Plus, vacuuming with your new vacuum bag leaves the air with a crisp, clean scent. Once again, I'm harping on the issue of smell - gotta keep your home smelling fresh!
3. Disinfect your door handles! This takes hardly any time at all, and it will save many people a lot of time from getting sick! Use some disinfectant wipes on all your door handles around your home and any other item that you or your guests may touch. This is a good preventative from sickness, and you won't have to worry about your guests complaining about getting sick that time they visited your home! It would also be a good idea to disinfect after they leave just to ensure you don't get any sickness in the days afterward.
4. Remember, your home is a home that is lived in. No matter how much you want to impress your family and friends, you have to keep in mind that you do live in your home and it will get messy at times. Most people are understanding when it comes to this because most people live the exact same way. Don't worry when your home is not in tip-top shape!
These few tips have been very helpful for me when entertaining Christmas guests. I hope they are helpful to you as well!
