My Top Fantasy Baseball Players Going into Week 3 of the 2010 Season

Marie Lowe
The fantasy baseball stars of Week 2 do not include the St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Mets.

I'm so happy to report that I had none of these players on my fantasy team this week, therefore I was able to watch the 20 inning marathon game without fantasy frustration.

However most of those I have had on my team so far this year have been doing for the most part a good job.

The five starting pitchers I have used so far this year have been outstanding.

Yankee pitcher Andy Pettitte racked up 44 fantasy points this week. He ranks as my highest fantasy point producer so far this year. Pettitte is 2-0 on the year with 20 innings pitched and 14 strikeouts.

Pittsburgh Pirate pitcher Zack Duke is right behind him with 35 fantasy points on the year. Duke is 2-0 on the year and has pitched 19 innings.

San Diego Padre third baseman Chase Headley is part of the new blood I'm trying to inject into my line up, and in his debut on my team, he scored 25 points this week, to rank third on my year list after two weeks. Headley is tied with Manny Ramierez for 12th place in the majors in batting average.

Another rookie to my fantasy team and to the big leagues is Atlanta Brave Jason Heyward. He scored 23 fantasy points and is tied with Houston Astro pitcher Roy Oswalt and Minnesota Twin reliever John Rauch for fourth place. In real MLB stats, Heyward is tied with four others with 15 RBI's on the year. Rauch leads the majors in saves with six.

In fifth place is Colorado Rockies pitcher Greg Smith with an average 22.5 fantasy points.

Diamondback's second baseman Kelley Johnson is averaging 21.5 points after two weeks and is in sixth place for the year. He is ranked 15th in slugging percentage.

Los Angeles shortstop Rafael Furcal us in seventh place with an average 20.5 fantasy points. Furcal is tied with many for 11th place in total runs scored.

Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann and Texas Rangers designated hitter Vladimir Guerrero are tied for eighth place with a fantasy average of 17 points.

Detroit Tiger outfielder Johnny Damon owns ninth place with an average of 16.5 fantasy points and Diamondbacks first baseman Adam LaRoche rounds out the top 10 of the year with a fantasy point average of 15.

My top overall fantasy players based on stats kept for the past 16 years are:
New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez with 1,824 fantasy points scored in a total of 63 weeks for an average of 28.95 fantasy points per week.

Second on my list is Houston Astros starting pitcher Roy Oswalt. I have selected Oswalt 11 times and he has averaged 28.36 fantasy points per week.

Cardinal slugger Albert Pujols is third on my top -10 list. Pujols has been a member of my fantasy team 79 times and is averaging 27.65 fantasy points per week. So far this year Pujols has belted five homeruns.

Fourth on my list is former Atlanta Brave turned Red Sox turned Cardinal pitcher John Smoltz. In 71 selections Smoltz is averaging 26.94 fantasy points per week. He is currently in the broadcast booth but has not officially called his career over.

Yankee pitcher Andy Pettitte is fifth on my overall list. In 50 selections he has averaged 25.98 fantasy points per week.

Chase Headley, the San Diego Padres third baseman enters my overall top-10 in sixth place with a 25 fantasy point performance this week. Headley is tied for sixth place with many for total amount of hits so far this year.

Pitcher Glendon Rusch is tied with Headley. Rusch has only appeared on my fantasy team two times, scoring 50 fantasy points for an average of 25 fantasy points per week. Rusch missed 2007 with injuries. In 2009 he appeared in 11 games with the Colorado Rockies recording two wins and striking out 13. It is still a mystery how much playing time he will see in 2010.

Tiger's first baseman Miguel Cabrera is in seventh place on my top-10 list. Cabrera has played on my fantasy team 45 times and is averaging 24.93 fantasy points per week.

Cubbie Carlos Zambrano ranks eighth place on my list. Zambrano has been on my team 30 times and is averaging 24.86 points per week.

Milwaukee Brewer Prince Fielder is in ninth place. In 50 selections, Fielder has scored 1,237 fantasy points for a weekly average of 24.74 fantasy points.

Alfonso Soriano of the Cubs rounds out my overall top-10 list, averaging 24.62 fantasy points per week in 37 selections.

My top players by position are: 1B, Albert Pujols, Cardinals; 2B, Dustin Pedroia, Red Sox; SS, Rafael Furcal, Dodgers; 3B Alex Rodriguez, Yankees; C, Brian McCann, Braves, and Alfonso Soriano, Jason Heyward and Carlos Lee are my three highest ranking outfielders.

My top three ranking starting pitchers are Roy Oswalt, John Smoltz and Andy Pettitte. My top ranking relief pitcher is Mariano Riveria.
