Google Mail, also referred to as G-mail, has always been my preferred email client because of its ability to check several email accounts (G-mail and other pop accounts) and still maintain the secure backup and seamless connectivity of that email account throughout several computers that I use to check email. So I was relatively excited to see what Google was capable with in a browser.
After my initial download and install of the Google Chrome browser I noticed right away the customary "File" tool bar of Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Mozilla's Firefox browsers was missing. This was a small inconvenience for me because I am so used to finding the things I need such as Print, Bookmark/Favorites, and Options from this tool bar. But I soon found the Google Chrome Extensions page that had apps that could be downloaded and installed in to the Google Chrome browser that would add this functionality back in conveniently.
So anyway, in exploring the countless Google Chrome Extensions out there I thought I would give you my top five as of now. This list is subject to change though as I become more familiar with not only Google Chrome itself but all the Extensions and Addons that are out there right now. Be careful where and from whom you download these from because if it is not an authorized Google Chrome Extension/Addon it is possible you may also be downloading a virus, Trojan, or other form of spyware. I downloaded most of mine from the Google Chrome Extension website here.
An app that allows you to view and interact with photos and videos found at Google Images and YouTube. It allows for faster scrolling and searching of these images and videos as well as creating an interactive 3-D viewing wall with in the Google Chrome browser.
Being that I am limited on time when it comes to reading the news I long ago switched to rss readers. These rss feeds can not only deliver news updates, blog subscription notices, daily comics, and many other things as an add-on to a home page, blog, or browser but they are also in a quick and easy to read briefing of the news article or blog which can save loads of time in clicking through to the articles page since the RSS feed contains a simple brief summary of the article or posting itself. RSS Subscription is Google Chrome's answer to an easy way to add your favorite subscriptions to your RSS Feed with the simple click of a button at the top of the Google Chrome browser.
This is an easy to use clean up for the Google Chrome browser that allows you to delete internet cookies, form fill-ins, passwords, and more with the click of a button. It can also delete your browsing history, remove download history, erase temporary files, and protect your privacy by cleaning up you internet activity. I also really like the icon that is a roll of toilet paper.
Since I am an avid Tweeter, I found this Google Chrome bird extension just great for keeping me up to date on all my tweets and also allowing me to tweet and re-tweet right from my Google Chrome browser. There are several Twitter helpers available as extensions for the Google Chrome browser but I was partial to the cute little blue bird icon that Chrome bird displays for me to click on and access my Twitter account. The only downfall I have seen so far to Google Chrome bird is that it only allows you to monitor and tweet to one Twitter account so for those of you who want to be able to monitor and/or Tweet to several Twitter accounts at once this is not the Google Chrome extension for you.
I saved my favorite Google Chrome Extension for last. I am all about the 'One-click' phenomenon that is going on and love to have to only click in one place to share a web page with many different social media outlets that I use including Facebook, G-mail, my personal Blogs, Google Buzz, and Twitter all from one icon.
As I become more familiar with Google Chrome there will probably be many more add-ons and extensions that I will come to rely on as I use Google Chrome to search and interact on the web but now you have a few of my favorites to check out and possibly add to your own Google Chrome browser.
Happy Surfing!
