My Top Five Madonna Songs of All Time

Stacey Curry
Talk about a difficult task! With so many great songs, how can you pick the best five? I may not be the biggest Madonna fan of all time, but I must be close. In the mid eighties I can recall hearing my co-workers say how Madonna was a 'flash in the pan' and how in five years no one would even remember her name. Time has proven me to be right. I recall them laughing when I told them in two-hundred years people would be talking about Madonna, as she was a cultural phenomenon. It has not been two-hundred years, but it's been twenty-five, and Madonna remains arguably the biggest star in the world.

I can remember the first time I heard the song "Holiday". I remember the date, the time, and the place. I had no idea what Madonna looked like or how old she was. I knew only that the song was great. When I saw the "Lucky Star" video on MTV I was spellbound. I then subscribed to cable television solely to watch Madonna videos on MTV. I proceeded to buy every album, and then every CD, every single release, and have seen at least one performance of almost all of her live tours. To pick the best five songs is very difficult, but here they are.

#5: What it Feels Like for a Girl-This song makes the top five because the lyrics speak to every woman that was a child in the fifties and sixties. Madonna says it all for all of us of a certain age. Unfortunately, I'm not so sure much has changed.

#4: Angel-This is a great feel good song, and probably is not on many top of anything lists, but I love it. The dance mix begins with a chorus of "Madonna, Madonna, Madonna". Each and every time I hear the song it brings a smile to my face and just plain makes me feel good.

#3: Erotica-This is one of the most underrated songs of all time. With all of the 'hoopla' about the sex book and the video, criticism abounds for the album, the book and all things Madonna. In my view what a mistake; this is a great album and a great song.

#2: Crazy for You-I admit, I could listen to the early years of Madonna forever and never get tired of any of it! "Crazy for You", from the movie "Vision Quest" was Madonna's first ballad. I never get tired of hearing it.

#1: Holiday-This song could be the best song of all time. The song everyone loves, no matter how young or how old and they don't even know it. Whether it is a wedding, a reunion, or a night club; when the song is played everyone dances. Since 1983 whenever anyone asks best song ever-I've got to say "Holiday".

Great list. I agree with your take on all of these songs.
