I stumbled upon the opportunity while searching for an easy legitimate way to make a little money on the Internet.
After 20 months of submitting articles, it still blows my mind that people who summarize the headlines are the ones that gather the most page views.
I understand it is because of the Search Engine Optimization, but as a working journalist, there is just something sort of insulting about someone who lives on the west coast and writes about a story taking place on the east coast without leaving their desk.
Anyway for those that follow my content, you know that I try to produce original, educational and humorous content.
So with that in mind, here is a list of my top ranking articles and some of the facts about AC I have picked up on.
First it seems that some readers may only look at those articles being posted by those that they subscribed to and many will take a peak at your work after you leave them a message.
The sad thing is by doing this, we all may be missing out on interesting articles and talented writers.
With that said, here is a list of my top 10 articles that have received the most page views.
Coming in at number 10 is Raising Awareness About Multiple Myeloma
This one of my first articles published on AC and it calls attention to a once unheard of cancer. The article has received 738 clicks.
At number nine is an example of my love for fantasy football.
My article titled Best Fantasy Players Heading Into the NFL Playoffs has collected 767 views.
This will probably increase this month.
My eighth top ranking article was my third top ranking story last year.
North Central Oklahoma Casino Plans Weekend Grand Opening is still getting page views. The article highlights the grand opening of the 7 Clans Casino following roof repairs. 769 people have read about it.
Coming in at number seven on my list of top articles is How I Met Dawn Wells, Gilligan's Island Star Busted on Marijuana Possession
Meeting the Gilligan's Island star is still the top highlight of my journalism career. I was a little disappointed with the title that AC gave the article but I understand why they did it. Wells' drug arrest was the news story on that day. Despite the negative tone of the title, the article has nothing to do with the drug bust but instead describes the pleasant experience I had meeting the star.
The article has received 851 page views.
Remaining at number six on my list is a story that made local and state headlines in my area.
Blackwell Police Videos on Youtube Upset Community is a story about a cop arresting a man on drug charges while the police dash cam rolls. The video sparked the debate as to whether the officer is abusing the suspect or not. The officer is still on duty and the suspect's case is still in the court system. The article has received 885 page views.
My fifth ranking story takes us back to the fantasy sports theme. My top fantasy baseball picks going into 2009 has received 998 hits.
The casino theme stays in tact for my fourth highest ranking article as Osage Nation Opens Casino has grabbed the attention of 1,119 readers.
In third place is a product review I did one day in a matter of minutes about the new FUZE drink Black and Green Tea.
The article has received 1,608 page views.
To my surprise an article that takes us back to the fantasy sports theme is my second highest ranking article.
My Top Fantasy Baseball Picks has earned 1,770 views.
It was fourth on my overall list last year with only 597 views.
Last year's number one ranking article is still number one and that pleases me very much.
The article was turned down by AC for upfront payment.
Despite that Original Members of the Band Nazareth Embroiled in a Dispute has been viewed 2,765 times.
It is the story of one of the former band members calling the newspaper where I work one day and sharing his concerns about other members of the band touring under the name Nazareth. In the end AC refused upfront payment and said the topic was too broad. They also said it had a short shelf life. Well I'm still not sure what the definition of short shelf life is since the article is still generating over 100 page views a month.
Anyway, these are just a few of the articles that I have published. I hope that I have inspired some to browse the site and explore outside their favorite content producers. Who knows you might find more favorites.

Post a CommentWow this is really interesting. You know one of my best articles I have was denied for upfront as well.
Excellent. I also wonder sometimes about ACs decision to turn down certain articles for up front payment. Would like to know exactly how they decide that.
Interesting article! Something that has really tickled me over the years is unitensionally funny article titles like "Man Charged in battery Case".
I really like this, Marie!
Very nice Marie!
I have also found that most of my highest ranked oaged view articles were rejected by AC for upfront payment, too, so take heart! Also, you CAN get them to change a title if they really botch it up! I had to do that on my article about Woody Nightshade! AC Darnell was wonderful help!
AC refused upfront payment for my highest ranking article about Ted Bundy. It was my first AC article and it continues to bring in the most page views. So I'm not sure what qualifies for upfront payment either, but I sometimes ask for it and they sometimes - rarely - say yes ;)
Good list, and I esp. appreciate your insight into some of the AC processes.
I agree, there is something insulting about hard work being outbased by someone obviously less qualified and who did not pay their dues obtaining the same or more recognition and money. Life is so unfair. I enjoy your work and hope that someohow, somewhere you receive your reward.
good job!Funny thing is mine that got turned down for upfronts seemed to do the best too.
