My Top Ranking Fantasy Football Players Going into 2010

Are you ready for some football? The 2010 season is here and fantasy team owners are running out of time to get their season kick off team selected.

If you are a participant of fantasy football, you know that having top durable performers are the key. These performers must also put up decent numbers against any team, not just the cellar dwellers.

The following are the top 10 offensive players that have proven their durability on my fantasy teams during the past seven going on eight years.

First up is Jaamal Charles of the Kansas City Chiefs.

I used Charles four times last year in which he scored 116 fantasy points for a 29 point per week average.

This will be his third season in the NFL. He finished last year with 1,120 yards and seven touchdowns. He will be battling Thomas Jones for top spot in the Chief's running game.

Arizona Cardinal wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is second on my list.

I have played him five times in the past two years and he has not disappointed as he has averaged 22.2 fantasy points per week.

In 2008, Fitzgerald scored 12 touchdowns. He stayed consistent in 2009 as he gained a total of 1,092 yards and scored 13 touchdowns.

He missed the past three preseason games but should be okay for the opener.

Third on my list is Indianapolis Colts Quarterback Peyton Manning.

I have selected Manning 60 times through the years and he has scored me a total of 1,251 fantasy points for an average of 20.85 fantasy points per game.

Manning passed for 4,500 yards last year and 33 touchdowns.

Fourth on my list is Patriot's quarterback Tom Brady.

I have played Brady 35 times and he scored 724 fantasy points for an average of 20.68 fantasy points per game.

Brady returned to action last year following surgery and passed for 4,398 yards and 28 touchdowns.

Fifth on my list is Lions quarterback Daunte Culpepper.

Yes, I know Culpepper is a back up and currently he is playing in the United Football League so it is not even clear if he will wear a NFL uniform in 2010. During that time that he has, I have selected Culpepper 25 times and he scored 503 points for an average of 20.12 fantasy points per game. Now I admit most of those selections were when he was a part of an explosive Minnesota Vikings team. Last year he managed 945 yards for the Detroit Tigers in eight games.

If Culpepper should somehow land a job and get some playing time he still could be a point producer.

Sixth on my fantasy keeper list is Panther wide receiver Steve Smith.

I have selected Smith 24 times and he has scored my teams a total of 472 fantasy points for an average of 19.66 fantasy points per game.

In 2008, Smith played in 14 games and put up 1,421 yards.

Those numbers declined in 2009 to 982 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games.

Placing seventh on my list is running back Brian Westbrook. In 31 selections, Westbrook has scored me 567 fantasy points for an average of 18.29 fantasy points per game.

Westbrook, in a 49er uniform, will be looking to rebound from injury filled season in 2009 that limited him to eight games.

LaDainian Tomlinson is eighth on my list. I have used him 13 times and he has scored 237 fantasy points for an average of 18.23 fantasy points.

This season Tomlinson will make his debut with the New York Jets after spending the first nine years of his career with the San Diego Chargers.

2009 was the first year in his career he did not rush for over 1,000 yards.

He hopes to get that back on track with the Jets.

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson makes the list in ninth place.

The former Oklahoma Sooner will rush into his fourth season with 4,484 yards and 40 touchdowns under his belt. With or without Brett Favre Peterson should log a Pro-Bowl year barring injury.

Rounding out my 10 favorite fantasy players is Randy Moss. Because of the fact that Moss is usually a somewhat expensive fantasy choice, I have only selected him 15 times through the years. During those selections he scored 270 points for an average of 18 fantasy points.

Last year Moss racked up 1,264 yards and 13 touchdowns.

So my top rated fantasy football team in Sports Buff fantasy form would be Peyton Manning, starting quarterback, with Tom Brady at back up.

Jaamal Charles, Brian Westbrook and LaDainian Tomlinson at running back duty.

My three wide receivers would be Larry Fitzgerald, Steve Smith, and Randy Moss.

Dallas Clark playing tight end.

Adam Vinitari and Lawerence Tynes will do the kicking and the Steelers and the Vikings will provide the defense.

I plan to integrate Sam Bradford and Dez Bryant into the mix this year.
