My Top Ten Cheer-Up Songs

We all need a pick me up sometimes. Music is one way that people have always used to set a mood throughout history. If you're feeling down, here's an eclectic playlist to help cheer you up.

Dolly Parton - Better Get to Livin' - A song all about being upbeat about life, it's the perfect way to start out this playlist! Dolly Parton is known for her ever-upbeat attitudes, and in this song she explains how she does it.

Celtic Woman - Spanish Lady - One of Celtic Woman's most fun songs, and one you can find by many artists for that matter. It is a traditional Irish folk song and has a bright tune.

Indigo Girls - Hammer and a Nail - A folksy indy tune from the early 90s, this came on recommendation of a friend. It's a great tune to dance around to in your living room!

Barenaked Ladies - Lovers in a Dangerous Time - A cover of the Brice Cockburn song, BNL made it their own. It has a flowing tune and gentle lyrics that I find very soothing.

Enya - Marble Halls - This song, like many of Enya's songs, sounds like a dream. It's a relaxing, sweet fairy tale song. When I'm upset or feeling down, it often calms and centers me.

Antonia Banderas - Cancion del Mariachi - For a little foreign-language flavor, check out Antonia Banderas' singing! The song has a great Latin feel to it, and maybe you won't understand the words, but music speaks too, right?

Len - Steal My Sunshine - A quintessential summer song and Len's only real hit (so far), this is a male-female duet with a neat summery percussion beat flowing through it.

No Doubt - Just a Girl - Maybe No Doubt's most known song, I don't know if anyone can sit and frown through this one! It's got the No Doubt feel that we all fell in love with early in their career.

Robert W. Smith - By Loch and Mountain - I first heard this song when it was played in my high school band. It begins with a flowing French horn solo, and moves into a wonderful orchestration. Its tempo quickens about halfway through the song, becoming whimsical and growing into near-fanfare proportions.

MC Chris - Nrrrd Grrrl - For anyone who's a little geeky, this song is great. For those who aren't, it's still a quirky, bouncy, and fun song. It references X-Men, Firefly, Anime, and many other dorky memes.
