My Top Ten Favorite Movies of 2010

Jennifer Wright
In honor of the end of the year 2010, I decided to compile a list (in no particular order) of my ten favorite movies of 2010. If a movie is not on here that you think should be, it is probably because I haven't seen it or didn't like it as much as you did.

1. "The Sorcerer's Apprentice." "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" Starring Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel, was one of my favorite movies of 2010. In this movie a young man named Dave (Jay Baruchel) suddenly finds out that he is a sorcerer and finds himself part of a feud between ancient sorcerers. Dave must quickly come accept and learn magic to help Balthazar (Nicolas Cage) save the world.

2. "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse." Yeah, Ok, I admit here and now that I am a "Twilight" fan. In the third installment of "The Twilight Saga" Victoria is still after Bella and is building an army of newborn vampires to strike against the Cullen's. For the first time the wolves and vampires unite to fight against a common enemy. I thought Eclipse was the best of all the "Twilight" movies, probably because there was more action and evil vampires.

3. "Lottery Ticket." "Lottery Ticket" starring Bow Wow, Brandon T. Jackson and Ice Cube is a story about a kid from the projects who lives with his grandma. On the fourth of July he purchases a lottery ticket just for fun and ends up winning 370 million dollars. Sadly, he has to wait the entire holiday weekend for the lottery ticket claims office to open. Meanwhile avoiding the crazed neighborhood bully who has just gotten out of jail and has it out for him.

4. "Alice in Wonderland." Director Tim Burton has done it again with "Alice in Wonderland" and is definitely one of my favorite movies from 2010. This movie puts a darker twist on the classic versions. After a brief glimpse of Alice's life and the man who asks her to marry him, Alice falls down the hole and finds herself in Underland. In Underland the Red Queen is taking over, whoever doesn't do her bidding or displeases her will very likely lose their head. The legendary scroll shows Alice slaying the jabberwocky, the task that must be done by a champion to save Underland.

5. "Grown Ups." "Grown Ups" is a movie about five friends who all lead very different lives and through the death of their beloved coach are suddenly brought back together again. A stay at the lake house with their very different families gives them perspective about several things in their marriages, with their kids, and life in general.

6. "Karate Kid." "Karate Kid." Starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan is very different from the original Karate Kid. This one takes place in China where Dre Parker moves with his mother. Dre has a hard time adapting to life in China, he is terrorized by a bully who knows kung fu and begins to resent the move. Soon, he discovers the maintenance man who saves him from being badly beaten by the bully and his friends, and eventually the maintenance man teaches him Kung fu. Dre must beat the bully on the mat in a tournament to finally be left alone.

7. "Toy Story 3" "Toy Story 3" by Pixar is one of my favorite movies of 2010 because I have five children, and love kids movies. Kids and adults can both enjoy this funny animated kid's movie. "Toy Story 3" is the third in the very popular "Toy Story" series.

8. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1." "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" was one of my favorite movies last year because I am a total Harry Potter fan. My family waited a long time for this movie and we weren't disappointed as Harry and his friend searched for the missing pieces of Voldemorts soul.

9. "Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief." Now, I am all about family movies, I just love movies full of action and adventure that both my husband and I can watch with our kids and still enjoy. "Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief" was definitely one of those movies. Percy suddenly discovers he is a demi-god, a son of Poseidon. But, someone has stolen Zeus' lightning bolt and the gods are on the brink of war.

10. "Kick Ass." "Kick Ass" was one of those movies I didn't think I was going to like, but I did. In this movie a geeky, comic book loving teenager idly wonders why no one has simply tried being a superhero. So, even though he has no super powers, he suits up and tries to be a superhero. This movie is totally hilarious, although not for children.
