My Top Ten Favorite Songs by HIM

scott knox
HIM has been my favorite music artist for a while now, and this list is basically a compilation of my favorite songs of his.

1. Wings of The Butterfly

This song easily takes my top spot. It's one of his newer songs released on the new album Dark Lights, and shows that HIM produces music that is truly amazing. This is actually the first song I heard that really brought me into HIM's music. From this song out, I went on a quest to buy every HIM album I could get a hold of. Sure, his old stuff isn't perfect, but it's what he's became that truly matters most.

2. Under The Rose

Yup, another song off of the Dark Lights album. It needs to be pointed out that in my opinion, this is one of the best albums ever produced in the history of music. Every song on it deserves my top spot. Under the Rose is a great song and has a feeling to it that really draws you in as you reach the end of the song.

3. Join Me In Death

I realize their are some reasons this song may not deserve so high of a spot, but this is where I truly see where HIM was beginning to establish the feelings he does so well today. The pianos in the background are somewhat chilling and draw me in every time. He also matches up the pitches in the signature way he does in his more modern songs. This song is actually a little bit old, considering it is off of his Razorblade Romance album.

4. The Sacrament

Straight from the awesome Love Metal album. The sacrament is probably one of his best uses of the dreary pianos he puts in some of his songs. I've listened to this song on more that one sad occasion and gotten just the right feelings from it that only HIM can deliver so well.

5. 666 Ways To Love

OK, so this isn't really all that great of a song. But if I'm not mistaken, it was HIM's true beginning and the single of their first album. It's good enough I would listen to it again, and it shows the time where HIM was just taking the first steps to becoming the masterpieces they are today.

6. Funeral Of Hearts

Another great song from the Love Metal album. This song really gets to me because its TRUE. Freakin' love is the funeral of hearts, and I dig this song every time chicks don't work out.

7. Heaven Tonight

A great song from the Razorblade Romance album, it has a point in the song where it really raises your spirits and gives you that really awesome feeling I like to get from songs. I haven't heard many people mention this song, which is sad considering how great it really is.

8. Right Here In My Arms

Yet again from the Razorblade Romance album. This is actually what I think many consider the main single of the album (although Join Me In Death still has my vote). The song is very good and I have listened to it many a time.

9. Vampire Heart

This is a pretty good song from the Dark Lights album featuring some good keyboard sounds and vocals. This is where my list of HIM songs start to trail off (I'm simply too busy listening to the other songs so much).

10. Killing Loneliness

The last of my lovely list. I loved this song over and over again many a time, but it does eventually begin to lost it's coolness over time. Overall, these ten are the main "big" ones I would consider from HIM's productions so far.

-on a last note, I realize now I didn't consider his new album into this. Venus Doom is a good album, and I think Bleed Well and a few others should have made it, but I really didn't like his new one like i have his old. (Even though my play count on it is like 60 for each song.)

Yeah HIM is basically the most awesome it can get. Wings of a Butterfly did get old quick, but it's what really started my HIM craze, so i kind of owe it to it. I didn't like "beautiful" all that much. The vocals graded on my nerves, not to say that wasn't a great album.

Good choices but Wings of A Butterfly started to get on my nerves after awhile. I too found myself on a quest to get every album after first hearing them. Have you seen them live yet?
