My Top Three Most Addicting Video Games

Mark
If you have read any of my articles, you will notice that I enjoy video games. Of course I am not the only one; millions of others enjoy them as well.

One of the topics related to games that doesn't seem to be discussed all that much is addiction. I know it sounds weird, trust me.

But I am sure a lot of video gamers out there have been addicted to a video game, I know I have. And in this article I will talk about my top three most addicting games.

First of all, what is addiction? In this context I would simply say it means to play compulsively and almost seem to need to play. Today, World of Warcraft is the worst when it comes to people being addicted. Thankfully, I do not play that.

It has been sometime since I was really addicted to any game. My number three has to be Grand Theft Auto III.

When I first saw GTA III I was stunned. Having played the old Grand Theft Auto's with the top down view, I couldn't believe that it was actually in 3D now! When I got my Playstation 2 my friend owned a copy and he let me borrow it. He didn't get it back until six months later when I finally bought it myself. I played it everyday, and since I just got my PS2 as a gift I did not own a memory card. Not only did I play every day when I first got it, but I played for hours at a time. And since I didn't have a memory card I would have to restart the game every time I turned off the console. That was not a problem to me.

Why was this game addicting? It was different. The sandbox type game play where pretty much anything goes was completely new. The story line was very engaging, and even the graphics were nice for such a big game. But most importantly: the game was long, and even when you finished it there were 3 big cities to explore. GTA III is my number three most addicting game.

My number two is an older game for the PC: Starcraft and the expansion.

Having got Starcraft and having seen my one friend play it, I thought it was the coolest game at the time. I didn't get into the single player (even though I heard it was great), but multiplayer online was amazing. Since it was a strategy game, you started out with a command center of some sort and different drones. You collected resources like minerals and gas and then began to make units for fighting your enemy (in this case other people). The maps were simple, the game didn't look that great, but the game play made up for it completely. Having dozens of your troops go invade the enemy base was a very good sight (at least for you!). I first got this and played it for a while on a dial-up connection. Even that didn't slow me down. This was truly a great game.

To be honest, neither of the above two come even close to my number one: SOCOM II U.S. Navy SEALs for the Playstation 2.

I bought this game after I heard about it on different forums. When I first got it, I couldn't play it online because my Playstation 2 didn't have the network adapter. Anyway, playing single player was fun, and I thought it was a pretty decent game, but that's not why I bought it.

When I started to play it online after I got the adapter, I couldn't stop. It was summer vacation and I just finished up 10th grade. I didn't have a job, so I had plenty of time to play. And believe me, I did.

I remember my first match. I was on the terrorist's side on Desert Glory with an AK47. Why do I remember that? It was that good of a game. In no time I really got into it, and I would play for at least 3 or 4 hours a day everyday. Probably around the middle of the summer I remember waking up a couple days and saying I wasn't going to play that day. Yeah, that didn't work.

It was like I had to play. I enjoyed that game probably more than any other game I have ever played. When school started I took a break and usually just played on weekends. But I still really liked SOCOM II; I was constantly thinking about it.

After a while I stopped playing it because newer games were coming out, but I will always remember that game and how much fun it was. My most addicting game of all time, hands down.

In Conclusion, yes, I do believe video games are addicting. Ever since SOCOM II I haven't really had that feeling for any game, maybe because I am getting older, or no other game can top the awesomeness that Zipper Interactive provided for us with that second installment of SOCOM. I know others enjoyed it just as much, if not more than me.

Well, there's my list: GTA III, Starcraft, and SOCOM II U.S. Navy SEALs. If you have played any of them, you will know what I'm talking about.
