My Treatment for Nerve Pain: Cymbalta Side Effects

Cymbalta is a common drug that treats major depression, anxiety, nerve pain and diabetes. When Cymbalta first came out awhile ago, I misunderstood who used this medication. I only assumed it was meant for people with major depression. Over a month ago, I had been sitting in my Nerve Pain Doctor's office. To my surprise, he decided that Celebrex wasn't obviously working for me, and that Cymbalta would. When I had told him, i wasn't depressed, he laughed and explained to me I was unaware of the many other ways that Cymbalta can be used for these days. After speaking, I discovered I really didn't know a lot about this medication after all. That was until I began to take it orally. As for someone like me, I take Cymbalta for nerve pain in my lower back. After having two children, and my son almost 5 years ago, my back has never gotten better. I have gone through the changes of medications to higher doses, physical therapy to no relief. Being on Cymbalta will have its down falls as well. Typically, Cymbalta side affects will range from nausea, dry mouth, constipation, decreased appetite, tiredness, increased sweating, blurred vision, and even drowsiness.

Personally, I have experienced the decreased appetite in the past two weeks already, from dry mouth and occasionally nausea. Though I can tolerate the side affects much more, Cymbalta has started to decrease the pain that I have felt in my back in the past few years. Though the nerve damage is done, I helps ease my pain a lot better than it has in the past 2 years for me. For someone like myself, with nerve pain, the damaged nerves send out pain messages. These messages travel quick up the spinal cord and into the brain. Cymbalta is believed to work for me by increasing the action of two chemicals. These chemicals, known as, Serotoin and Norepinephrine are found in the brain and spinal cord. Cymbalta can't stop nerve damage, but it can relieve the pain that has caused the damage. Cymbalta is typically taken once daily, as for myself, usually at night, around bedtime. With Cymbalta's side affects of drowsiness, to nausea, and dizziness, I sure don't need to be walking around like that during the day. Cymbalta also treats major depression, anxiety, and people with diabetes too. Cymbalta works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances in the brain. With being on Cymbalta, the side affects of stopping the medication suddenly can greatly intense the dangers to one. From feeling the withdrawal reactions, nausea feeling, vomiting, headaches, numbness, tingling and even nightmares can occur too. As with any medication anyone takes, they should always consult the advice of their doctor before starting a new one.
