My Trip Experience to Niagara Falls, New York

Don't Go Unless You Are Willing to Sleep on the Grass

There's a bridge going from Buffalo into Canada called the Peace Bridge. From there go to Toronto, or as I like to call it, The City of Lights. Niagara Falls is the other City of Lights.

My dad took us on vacation in the 50s which included my mom, sister and brother. We went to the American side and the Canadian side. I can remember my mom ironing for days to get all our clothes ready which mainly consisted of shorts and sleeveless shirts.

Years later, after the birth of my daughter, my husband decided to take us to Niagara Falls; I was nursing at the time and while riding in a 1973 Bonneville, a truck driver was along side of us in the right lane; imagine my embarassment.

Upon arriving on the American side of Niagara Falls, we checked into our hotel and I spent most of my time taking care of an infant.

Years before that, we had visited Niagara Falls with friends and did the Maid of the Mist and took in all the sights plus the museums (i.e., ocean and indian).

So, as you can see, I saw Niagara Falls upon three different occasions and must admit, each time was different.

The first time, I remember my parents and their perspective and ideas of being on vacation.

The second time, I came in with the point of view of my husband and our friends' ideas of sightseeing as tourists.

The third time was from the point of view of our new infant needing time keeping me detained. I spent time on the grass with a stroller enjoying the many-colored tulips.

The last time I visited Niagara Falls, I was going to Toronto and Toronto far exceeded my expectations of the Canadian side, including Niagara Falls. I was going to be living in Canada.

It's like New York City, visiting is a hassle; but, if you live there, it is fantastic. I feel the same is true of Niagara Falls, NY; it is a tourist trap unless you live there; then you know the traps and can truly enjoy living there.
