My Twitter Account is Suspended! Now What?

Suspended Account: Twitter Hates Me

Deborah Oakes, NPS
Well, it finally happened. My twitter account is now suspended. As of publishing, I'm into day eight since asking for twitter to give me my account back. Life is lonely without using twitter.

I have a history with twitter. I published articles on the Iran election protests 3 days before national media started reporting. I was getting my information from twitter.

I have to admit though, I ended up using my twitter account for promoting articles and ebooks I've written. I guess I got carried away when the trending topics kept landing on the subject of my new ebook.

Okay, I'll say it. I spammed my twitter account. Anyone using twitter knows how easily it is to get carried away. It's so fun spamming too. How exciting for the few days I got away with it.

When using twitter, I often tried to see how many followers I got with a tweet. It was also fun seeing how many hashtags I could get into my tweets. It sounds lame but really, it was fun.

The day my twitter account was suspended, I was getting 10 hashtags and a link into one tweet. Not bad huh? I'm sure I was setting a record. Anyway, it was fun until I got caught.

The Day My Twitter Account Died

I was busily spamming away with carefully placed hashtags in my tweets, when my twitter account wouldn't load right after I sent one. I finally refreshed the page and ta da! A red box came up with "Account Suspended" in the middle of the page.

I stared at it for two full minutes until I realized I lost my twitter account. I can always get another twitter account, but the suspended one is my name. It was my branding. So take it as a warning all twitter users, if you have your name on your twitter account, be very careful.

You do get to keep your tweets and @messages while the account is suspended. Otherwise, you lose all your followers and of course the ability to send a tweet.

The other problem is I have my twitter account hyperlink in several of my published articles. If my suspended account isn't resurrected, I'll have to go back to all those articles and change the hyperlink to a new twitter account.

Additionally, I lost all my followers. So those of you who I shared LOL's with over #uselesswisdom, I'm sorry. I'll try to find you. I'll be able to get some of you back, especially people that were friends. The rest, I may have to lose to that great twitter heaven for suspended accounts.

What are hashtags? And how can you spam Twitter? Isn't Twitter spam, lol? Hope Twitter has mercy and lets you tweet again from your old account!

Aw, sorry to hear that, I would have been going nuts because I have so many things online linked to my twitter account.

That's a shame. Thanks for the heads up. I've been tweeting a lot since the widget is at the top of the page, it's really easy. I'm surprised at all of the comments of those who don't use it. I'm kind of scared of Facebook, but I was getting a lot of traffic from there.

Hi Dan, Thanks for asking about it. I finally opened another account and the old one is still suspended.

I came back to this, Deborah, because I was wondering what the current situation is. I really haven't gotten involved in Twitter that much, although I like the people who've been following me. Maybe you could share what your current situation is..Thanks.

I'm sorry about your suspended twitter account. Twitter is a bit beyond my rudimentary commputers skill so I think I'll just have to stick with networking on AC. I do have a 57 year old brain ya know, and for years, all I could do was turn the tv on and off and dial the rotery phone.

Wow...I didn't know you could get suspended! I never go on Twitter and I deactivated my FB account last week after all the hacking going on! Besides, I never seem to find enough time anymore to go to those sites...so I am OK with that! Maybe by now you are back on Twitter!

    I have yet to tweet.

Hope you get everything worked out!

Hope you get it back..I hardly go on it anymore because I can't take shuffling through 20 tweets from 1 person with nothing but links!lol It's annoying, so I check it rarely now.
