My Views, Part One - Atheism

The First of a Tri-Weekly Series

Tim Brown
Atheism is a particularly hard one to do. I'm not sure I trust myself to come up with some original content or be very entertaining about the subject, but here goes!

WIKIPEDIA:
Atheism can be either the rejection of theism, or the position that deities do not exist. In the broadest sense, it is the absence of belief in the existence of deities.

As you might expect, I have no qualms with this at all, speaking as objectively and broadly as it is. Being a factual reference, there's nothing opinionated or individualized. I could say that Atheism really is seeing the world as it is, leaving the mind unclogged and respecting the universe. But come on, I'm not a poet.

CONSERVAPEDIA:
Atheism, as defined by the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy and the Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosophy, is the denial of the existence of God. The atheistic worldview has a variety of effects on individuals and society at large which will be elaborated on shortly. In regards to individuals adopting an atheistic worldview, atheism has a number of causal factors that influence its origination in individuals which will be addressed. In addition, critiques of atheism will be offered and some of the historical events relating to atheism will also be covered (for example, since World War II a majority of the most prominent and vocal defenders of the theory of evolution which employs methodological naturalism have been atheists).

The editors have clearly searched high and low for some sort of resource that would support what they want to say. A denial of the existence of God. Of course, ridiculous pandering to their audience, but you can't really blame them.

And boy, they do offer critiques. Well, by critiques I mean a smear-fest. One of the sections is titled "Atheism and Mass Murder".

As I mentioned, it's hard to say anything original on the subject. If you're reading this, I assume that you are of some form of intelligence, so I'm not going to spew Dawkins or Hitchens or Harris or any other famous Atheist's quotes at you.

To me, Atheism is a positive, secular force growing quickly, trying to fight off myths and lore of yesteryear, and generally increase human knowledge and understanding of the naturalistic world.

An uneventful first part, but I promise the next parts will be more informative.
