As soon as you get down at Liberty Island, you will be amazed to see the tall statue of Liberty installed on the pedestal, which is 90 feet high. The height of this statue of liberty from the foundation of pedestal to the top of the crown of the statue is 306 feet. It is the tallest statue of the world. Around 3000-4000 tourists visit this statue everyday from all over the world. This statue of liberty was given as a gift by the people of France on 28th October, 1886 to the people of the USA. The design of this statue was made by the world famous engineer Eiffel who has also designed the famous Eiffel tower of Paris that is around 300 meters tall. This statue was constructed by F. A. Bartholdi of France. It took around 10 years to build this statue. One of the main reasons for such a long time was the political upsets in France during that time. It is said that the face of this goddess of Liberty was taken from a model, named Isa Bell who was a deserted wife of one of the famous French Singers. Some people believe that the face of this statue is of the mother of F.A. Bartholdi. There are broken chains at the feet of the statue that indicate the freedom of human race from all the cruelties of the world. There are seven bars in the crown of the statue. These seven bars represent the seven oceans and the seven countries. However, I myself believe that these seven bars represent the seven colored rays of sun that gives the light to the entire universe. The torch in the hand of the statue indicates the light of knowledge and wisdom. The plate held in the other hand of the statue denotes 4th July, 1776, which is the independence day of the great country the USA. The statue was transported from France to New York by sea travel in a large ship. There is also a long intersting history on the problems faced during this shifting.
There are many restaurants here on the Island that serves many food varieties to all the visitors. You can buy many items as sweet memory of your visit to this famous statue. The most popular item among all the visitors is the small replica of the statue of liberty. There is a large museum here that has 30 galleries in all and is really worth seeing. Earlier in the past, all the tourists were allowed to go up to the crown of the statue through the circular staircase. However, recently this practice has been stopped due to security reasons. You would love to sit at the base of this statue watching the waves of sea for a long time. You also can view this statue from your aircraft while landing and taking off from New York if the day is clear. You will need around 4 to 5 hours to visit this historical monument of the USA. This statue is open for visit all through the year. It would be preferable to visit this statue on a clear sunny day so as to enjoy its breathtaking scenic beauty.
I have met many residents staying since around 10 years in the USA who have not been able to visit this famous historical monument. I would sincerely urge all my AC friends to visit this monument at the earliest.
