My Weight Loss Journey: Stupid Birth Control

I've Never Really Believed the Birth Control Myth Until Now.

Amy Gayle
Yesterday, I ran my third mile. I got on the scale and it is not moving! Today, I haven't eaten a thing, because I weigh in tonight for my official weigh in, and I got on the scale, it is not moving. So does birth control make you gain weight or make it harder to lose? I've done a little research on the subject.

Most studies say that it does not effect your weight. I used to think people that said that were nuts...that their weight gain was because of their pill. Just exercise and eat right, and you'll be fine. Well, I've been doing both, and the scale isn't budging. I'm not close to my goal at all. I'm far from it. I have about another 40 pounds or more to lose, so the weight should be falling off of me.

Another study I found says it's about equal. The amount of women that gained weight equaled the amount that lost weight. They say that the combination of estrogen and progestins found in birth control pills can lead to weight gain, but I guess that it depends on you and your body. My body's hormones have always been a little out of whack, so maybe I'm an exception to the weigh gain rule. They say that if you suspect your gain is due to the birth control pill, that you should talk to your health care provider about changing to a different pill.

I think that all these studies are funny, because when you read the side effects of birth control pills, they always say "weight gain". I guess that they just aren't sure!

Just keep exercising and eating right! If, by chance, you don't see any loss, then call your doctor. If I don't have a loss tonight, then I will call my doctor's office tomorrow to see about getting on another type of birth control pill. I will keep you informed. It's just incredibly frustrating to be doing what you think is right and then seeing yourself gain weight.
