My Weight Watchers Success Story

Nicole Lang
Growing up I never really struggled with weight. Some of that is because of my metabolism, some genetics and some had to do with how active I was. I distinctly remember people telling to me to enjoy it while it lasted. Somehow, I always thought I would be immune to weight gain. That changed....

I went off to college and still managed to keep my weight down although I gained a few pounds and then suddenly law school happened. I gained 15 pounds fairly quickly. Working full-time, law-school at night and homework did not allow for much time to be working out and quick and cheap take out dinners were the easiest and most accessible way for me to eat.

Fifteen pounds may not seem like a lot but on my 4' 11" frame and considering that I used to be a comfortable size 2 it was more than I was willing to bear. I tried eating working out like crazy (I love food and have never minded working out so felt this was preferable to eating very healthy). It did not work. I tried the South Beach Diet but found it to be cumbersome. Finally my mom suggested we do Weight Watchers together.

We joined the meeting and I learned that I was only allowed 18 points a day. This sucks I thought. Then I learned about the extra points every week and thought okay I will try this. The first week was HORRIBLE. The entire week I was trying to write down everything I was eating and wanting to cry by lunch when I realized that my point limit was quickly approaching.

I regrouped after I realized that first week I lost 4 pounds. The second week I made smarter choices. I stopped eating empty calories and began eating healthy foods that filled me up. My general rule was to follow Weight Watchers all week and then on the weekend allow myself a full day of indulgence. To my surprise I started wanting less and less empty calories and began eating healthier even on my "cheat" days.

I lost the fifteen pounds I had gained prior to Weight Watchers slowly but surely and once I started seeing what foods filled me up and allowed me to end my day without dying of hunger. I utilized my workouts to give me the extra "Activity" points which allowed me to eat more if I was hungry and if not then it was just an added bonus.

For a few weeks I stopped tracking my foods and fell off a bit. I highly suggest to maintain a working diet on Weight Watchers it is key to keep track. Every chain restaurant now has a "nutrition guide" online and inputting the information into a Weight Watchers calculator is easy and quick.

Weight Watchers is an effective way to manage weight. I would not call it a diet because like they say it is a lifestyle change. Some people need the support of the meetings and if you do I highly suggest you go. There are recipes offered and ideas for sustaining your weight or losing more.

So whether you have 10 pounds to lose or 100 pounds, Weight Watchers is an effective and healthy way to lose weight without ever feeling deprived. It allows you to still have the foods you love just in moderation.

Good Luck!
