When you first start you are told you welcomed to the institute that is developed and imagined by the game. You start doing some quick games and tests. After taking these tests I learned right away what my vocabulary consisted of and even was told I would make a good writer, which is what I want to be. I thought that was awesome. The way you figure out how much vocabulary you know or understand so far is by playing some simple games and then you are graded on how many right answers you have. I kind of hated that since sometimes I think I should know more words, but it was good to know how many I actually did know. After qualifying you got to pick which teacher you wanted. The four you pick from are basically tailored for you depending on whatever you would like to do. What you learn from the first game play before you chose your coaches is your expression potential which is basically how you are able to use your vocabulary. After that you get to train to help increase your expression potential by playing these games. These games take advantage of the dual screen of the Nintendo DS Lite. The games are: missing letter, split decision, pasta letters, block letters, word shuffle, and safe-cracker. Each game has different levels that you unlock as you play each day, since at first you don't have all of the games. These games are fun and fast paced and will make you want to come back to play more.
I think this game for the Nintendo DS Lite is very imaginative. I've played many video games in my time, but really didn't learn any new words. I can't wait every day to play it and learn new words, or find out how many I really know. I enjoy learning so this is a great way to keep my brain active which needs a lot of activity at times.
The graphics on this Nintendo DS Lite game are kind of cartoon-like, but not too annoying. I can tolerate it myself and don't mind the colors at all. The music isn't really all the great, it just repeats the same music over and over again, but you can always turn off the sound.
Game play is excellent for the Nintendo DS Lite. Every day you have a daily quota of words that you have to understand. Also you have to play the games and get so many words right in each game. As you advance in your daily training, you unlock more levels and games to help with your expression potential. Seems that the words are endless. There is even a dictionary you can look through to find words and look up. It's kind of handy if you don't have a dictionary near-by. The best thing is after all the games you play, you get to see the words with their definitions. This comes in handy when you miss a word and can get a better understanding of it and it's meaning.
This is a very creative game for the Nintendo DS Lite. It takes the video gaming world and turns it into learning fun. I mean some of us grew up on the computer and learned how to do that first before anything else. Now video games are almost like the new computers, since most children can pick up a controller and play a game quicker than anything else. Why not make education video games for all ages even us adults who enjoy learning? I really think it was a great decision they made. I really liked that they thought about a need for learning and teaching games. I find it strange it's in the adventure game category, but I guess it's because you have to solve problems to get to a new level.
I personally really enjoy this game and think it's fun because I enjoy learning. Anyone out there who enjoys learning will really enjoy this game. Don't be afraid to try it out. You might really enjoy it.
Overall "My Word Coach," for the Nintendo DS Lite is a great game that has a different take on the normal video game. It will teach you how to understand new and old words and help you realize your learning potential. This game is a game that you should at least consider checking out in the future.

Post a CommentI have been playing "My Word Coach for 3 month now and the second week my expression level jumped to 52%, since then it has remained the same! I am getting extremely bored and mad and frustrated! I keep getting the same old darn words over and over, accretion, acolyte, adduce, I am getting pretty darn tired of this and would at least like a pat on the back. It has lost all of it's excitement because I already know that when I'm finished with my daily darn lesson I will still be at the same boring level of 52%. I feel l feel like I am wasting my time even though I know I must be learning something? I think in 5 years if I still play it I will still be at the same darn 52% level. What's the use, I can go on the internet and learn more and better words than that game!
