My Worst Fear

Adren Aline
Close your eyes and imagine yourself in an unfamiliar place. You are unaware of anyone and anything around you. It is just two hours clear of midnight and you are on your way to find, the nearest convenience store, which is about two hundred miles in radius. The wind filters a fixed breeze, as your legs begin to weaken. You wish you had gotten that extra spare tire, instead of putting it off. As you walk along side the highway, the night so silent, you can hear an owl hoot miles in the distance. Then, suddenly, you perceive sound of rustling, footsteps sinking into mushy grass, growing louder, faster and closer. Before your instincts begin to interpret what is happening, you blink. For a split second, all you hear is stillness, all you see is darkness, all you can feel is coldness. A sodden coldness, streaming through your body, as you try so hard to scream, but nothing seems to escape. Chills begin to move stealthily among you, and a strong rush toward your abdomen sends you plummeting toward the ground. Someone blankets your entire body... you cannot breathe. Your muscles begin to slowly tense up, as fear creeps beneath your skin. You are still sightless, and slowly begin to experience pain. Everything in you is cold, and all you can feel is excruciating. Everything in your entire body hurts, like infinite needles piercing your skin. The ground you once walked upon, has dissipated, and you feel as if you are floating. Someone has a strong grip on you, holding you above the ground. You realize you cannot hold your breath much longer. Your mind seems unattached, and you begin to see images. They are flashing at a speed faster than light. Past events, memories, familiar faces, your family, your friends, flashes of experiences that were just two weeks ago, two days ago, two hours ago.

Your eyes dilate... All you see is a shadow standing over you and your sight blurs, the pain seems to disperse. You can feel your heart beats beginning to depreciate, and at the beginning of your last beat of life, you realize where you are... In your trunk. At the end of your last beat of life, you know what has happened. The last thing you see is the trunk slamming down over you, then blackness fills your sight. You can no longer move, you can no longer feel pain, and you can no longer think. Your heart has stopped pounding... All you can see is blackness.
