My Writing Process: My Secrets Exposed!

Secrets

Kurt Evans
Inspiration Is Everywhere
When I write, I'll often get ideas anywhere. I've gotten into the habit of taken notebooks and pens with me wherever I go; just in case I get an idea. Most of the time, my writing is like a muscle that I can turn on and off. When it's appropriate, I'll come up with ideas. For example, when I'm sitting at the park while my son plays in the play area.

Flow

I'll often times exercise my imagination by just visualizing myself at the keyboard of the computer typing away. This seems to work pretty well because when I finally get around to sitting at the keyboard, all of the ideas seem to flow out of me. I will stop here and mention something about FLOW. Notice that I capitalized it, for extra emphasis.

Ideas

The reason I mention flow is that all the ideas seem to flow out of me like a river with one idea after the other, all in perfect sink with each other. Well, maybe not all the time but, there's room for editing later. I don't judge at this stage.

The Writing Process

When I'm writing poetry, I'll often write it on a notepad, with one idea on each page. I'll flip from idea to idea; depending upon if I can hear a flow or not in my head. You see, sometimes it's as if someone is reading it to me in my head and all I have to do is write it down. I know that it sounds simple; at least it does to me.

The Excitement Of Writing

Writing a story is more complex though, and requires more work; more thinking. I think the most exciting thing about writing for me is the ability to immerse myself into whatever I'm writing and bring it alive. It's almost as if I'm writing about me and I'm in the story. The exciting thing about the stories is that I can be different characters and take on different identities all while I'm just sitting in a chair, typing.

I love the imagination...
