My New Year's Resolution and the 5 Ways that I'm Keeping It

Eva Wright
Three years ago I decided that I would make no more New Year's Resolutions without following through on them down the the mark!

#1. Set Realistic Goals

Setting a goal to lose 50lbs in two months is what I call an unrealistic goal! Let's face it, if it's not going to be cut out or sucked out the weight is still going to be there, followed with a crippling reality that you fell short of the mark on this goal. Setting a more realistic goal of joining a health or fitness center and going there to work out several times per week is more easily completed. Never make a promise to yourself that you are not able to keep. When you do this you are short changing nobody but yourself.

#2. Making a list of 2-3 Goals that is easy to follow is better than setting a list of 40 Goals and only fulfilling four or so of them.

#3. Be prepared to follow through.

For example: This year my #1 Goal is to Refind all of my schoolhood friends and reconnect with them! In order to do this I had to make the commitment to myself that I *might* have to join a premium site in order to seek them out. Which is exactly what I did! The $5.95 per month has generated me almost half a dozen friends that I went to school with and following through with my 1 major Goal I contacted one of them and arranged a meeting in my town last week.

25 Years have passed since I saw my good friend and we were both delighted that I took the first step toward making contact. So something that seems almost impossible is actually very do-able if you plan it properly!

#4. Keep the reminder in plain sight. Making a list then forgetting where you put it is also another biggy on the reasons why the list isn't kept. In the past I don't know how many New Year's Resolutions I have made then lost before saying NO MORE! This year I have committed myself to this one Goal and I am following through with it no matter what.

#5. Share the Resolution with friends and family and let them know how important that it is to you that you keep it. Ask for help achieving your Goal if necessary. This saves both time and the possibility for a slip up in case you forget what your original goal was later.
