I tried to quit, but I always come back.
I'm hooked and love it.
Why quit when you make me feel so good?
I love every dirty nook of you.
Love your long, lithe subway cars.
Love your smell, of nuts and oils.
Love to taste you, the flesh, your stones.
I come to you.
I must, I must.
My body tingles when I cross your bridge.
My breath catches when I see you again
UES, you took my virginity.
Murray Hill, a voyeur you made me.
Williamsburg, you make me moan.
LES, oh yes, oh yes.
I lap the East Village grit with my tongue.
Deep into the night I eat you Chinatown.
Broadway, the Bowery, Bedford Ave.
Your walk of shame, leaves me breathless, content.
Sitting on your fire escapes, oh God, oh God.
Drive me in your taxis, faster and faster.
Riding the Cyclone, I can't take anymore.
Savoring your foods, Please, may I have another.
Walking your avenues, don't stop, don't stop.
I'm exhausted.
It is early morning.
The sky is pink, the air is crisp.
I pull my scarf tighter.
Smooth out my moist hair.
Satisfied and alone.
Except you are still here.
I can't go home today.
It is no longer here.
So, I'll keep on walking until I can.
Soon, my love. Soon. Oh sweet, sweet New York.

Post a CommentI was lucky enough to visit NYC before 9/11 and visited WTC's. That and the trip to Ellis Island were highlights of my time there.
I am so in love with NY. I feel at home there. I don't get to go often being that I live in Cali and can't justify a good reason to visit according to my husband but when we retire we are heading back east and he's compromised in that we'll be living close enough to NYC for me to visit whenever I want. woohoo for me!!
Hate New York City - lived and worked there 8 years - but loved this poem. Great writing!

Beautiful ... I've only been to New York a few times but every time I leave I cry a little ... Okay, maybe not really, but after reading that ... maybe I should!
