Myanmar and China -- Building a Case for Supernatural Intervention

On May 2, 2008, Cyclone Nargis devastated Myanmar, killing up to 128,000 people. The cyclone unleashed winds, floods and high tidal waves on the densely populated region.

On May 12, 2008, magnitude-7.9 quake, the most powerful in three decades, struck China, killing an anticipated 50,000 people and destroying four million homes. The tremors were felt more than 1,000 miles away.

Natural or Supernatural?

What is the nature of the recent disasters in Myanmar and China? Were these events random, premeditated, or the outcome of natural or spiritual laws that have been violated?

On May 6, 2008, Al Gore called the Myanmar cyclone a "consequence" of global warming, suggesting that it was the outcome of natural laws that have been violated:

I, on the other hand, suggest that it was the outcome of transgressed spiritual laws. The natural disasters in Myanmar and China follow in the wake of attempts by their governments to suppress Buddhist monks.

I have publicly warned that Maitreya is not as forgiving as the Dalai Lama. I have advocated a reasonable resolution of the outstanding issue of Tibet.

Who is Maitreya?

Maitreya is the future Buddha of this world in Buddhist eschatology. He is messianic. He is known by many names, depending on the culture: He is the Jewish Messiah; the Muslim Mahdi; the Christian Good Antichrist. I prefer to call him the Good Antichrist.

From what source does the Good Antichrist derive his power? Ultimately from God. But more immediately, from angels. This is what makes the prayers of the Good Antichrist so important. Angels respond to his prayers. He has the power to bring down nations with his prayers and army of angelic beings.

I am aware that detractors may claim that I am using tragedy to advance an agenda and strategy for global domination. I am aware that philosophical humanists, as well as their religious sympathizers, may be outraged by the assertion that God can be party to these tragedies.

But in my defense, I remind them that there is a counter-reality that includes spiritual laws that are known and always available to those willing search them out. No one is excusable from disregarding them. This counter-reality is set forth in the Sacred Texts of the various religious traditions. The Bible is one source.

The Dark Side in the Biblical Worldview

The Bible acknowledges a Dark Side that is associated with the Plan of God, which He superintends through the movements and events of history. These movement are characterized by a predominating "Spirit of the Age", which is sometimes referred to as a zeitgeist. The spirit that struggles for the predominance of our age is Liberty.

It would be an error to conclude that this Dark Side exists separately from God. Otherwise, God would fail to be "all in all". The mistake occurs when people attribute incorrect assumptions to the nature of the Dark Side.

This error is usually expressed as a dualism with God as the protagonist and Satan as the antagonist. Philosophically, it is expressed as a struggle between light and darkness and usually depicted in moral religious terms.

But the Bible teaches that God is above good and evil. He superintends both the light and the darkness. "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these [things]" (Isaiah 45:7). Furthermore, God has appointed angels to act as "ministering spirits" in the playing out of this drama.

"And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing" (Revelation 5:11, 12).

If you read this passage literally, you quickly discover the reason for the unbridled success of the Antichrist Lamb. He receives the allegiance and support of more than 100 million angels!

This supernatural aspect of reality is rarely discussed in secular circles or factored into international relations. There is the involvement of spiritual beings, particularly angels, in human affairs. Scientific modernists assume that reality is limited to the material world. They err in this.

The involvement of spiritual beings is strikingly illustrated in the tenth chapter of the book of Daniel:

[1] In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision.
[2] In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks.
[3] I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.
[4] And in the four and twentieth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which is Hiddekel;
[5] Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz:
[6] His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude.
[7] And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for the men that were with me saw not the vision; but a great quaking fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves.
[8] Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me: for my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength.
[9] Yet heard I the voice of his words: and when I heard the voice of his words, then was I in a deep sleep on my face, and my face toward the ground.
[10] And, behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands.
[11] And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling.
[12] Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.
[13] But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
[14] Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days.
[15] And when he had spoken such words unto me, I set my face toward the ground, and I became dumb.
[16] And, behold, one like the similitude of the sons of men touched my lips: then I opened my mouth, and spake, and said unto him that stood before me, O my lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me, and I have retained no strength.
[17] For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, straightway there remained no strength in me, neither is there breath left in me.
[18] Then there came again and touched me one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me,
[19] And said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me.
[20] Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come.
[21] But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince.

Take particular notes of verses 12, 13, and 20.

Evidently nations have patron angels. This passage notes angel princes associated with Persia and Grecia (Macedonia). Michael ("one of the chief princes") is called "your [Daniel's] prince", likely meaning the patron angel of Israel. Michael appears again in the twelfth chapter of Revelation to battle Satan and vie once more for national Israel. Christian apologists suggest that Michael is none other than Jesus Christ in His role as Commander in Chief of the angel hosts.

God has "armies", which are seen only by "spiritual" eyes: "And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain [was] full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha" (2 King 6:17).

According to Peter, angels are greater in power and might than human mortals. 2 Peter 2:11. The Bible records that one angel slaughtered 185,000 soldiers in a single day: "For I [God] will defend this city [Jerusalem], to save it, for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake. And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they [were] all dead corpses" (2 Kings 19:34, 35).

The study of angels is the worthwhile undertaking known as angelology. One has to be mindful to give due credence to inspired sources, such as the Hebrew, Christian, and Muslim scriptures, while avoiding speculative sources, especially those that encourage prayers to or worship of angel beings, especially Satan himself.

The Intervention of Maitreya

Why would it be necessary for a spiritual super-being to intervene in human affairs?

Sometimes in the course of human affairs when the power of good wanes, it becomes necessary to pit an evil allied with the waning good against another evil in order to restore the ultimate good. God's Agent in effecting this outcome is the person variously known as Maitreya, Messiah, Mahdi, and the Good Antichrist. The weapons of his warfare are divine and angelic.

On May 17, 2008, Tibet's prime minister in exile announced that a new round of talks between the Dalai Lama's envoys and Chinese officials is expected to be held in mid-June. Officials from the Tibetan government-in-exile and China met earlier this month in Shenzhen, China, before the devastating May 12 magnitude-7.9 quake.

Maitreya has an interest in the outcome of these talks, an interest that transcends a localized approach to the issue of Tibet.

Earlier, I had proposed a solution to the long-standing problem of Tibet:

I have watched with interest and increasing concern the unrest related to the historical exile of the Dalai Lama; the civil and religious status of Tibetan Buddhists, both in their historic homeland and elsewhere; the rapid emergence of China as a global actor sufferings its own growing pains as it adjusts to the material and spiritual conditions of modernity; and lastly, the preservation of the Olympic Spirit as China prepares to host this important event in August.

The Spirit of Modernity, characterized in the twentieth century first by the fractures of two World Wars and then polarization and consolidation between East and West, began to give way to a New Order in the wake of the voluntary collapse of Soviet Communism.

The Polish Solidarity Movement, supported by Pope John Paul II, was a harbinger of a larger universal unseen movement in the Spirit of Modernity.

The Polish Labor Movement proved that Solidarity is a philosophy of human rights; but, Solidarity is even more a religious concept and prophetic agenda.

LHASA

Lhasa is the traditional seat of the Dalai Lama and the Potala and Norbulingka palaces. Both palaces are included in a World Heritage Site. In Tibetan Buddhism, Lhasa is regarded as the holiest place.

Lhasa is a prefecture-level city that consists of one district and seven counties. The seven counties are Lhünzhub, Damxung, Nyêmo, Qüxü, Doilungdêqên, Dagzê, and Maizhokunggar. These counties are important for the administrative and agricultural support of the city proper.

I propose that Lhasa, including the seven counties constituting the prefecture, be given the status of a city-state similar to that of Vatican City; and, that the Dalai Lama be recognized as the absolute monarch of Lhasa in the same or similar manner as the Pope is both the civil and spiritual ruler of Vatican City.

The Dalai Lama should be permitted to return to Lhasa promptly once the status of the city is finalized by concord.

Before and in time for the Olympics, redefining the status of the city can be effected with very little delay, as can the Dalai Lama's return to Lhasa.

I further propose that Beijing and Lhasa rapidly exchange formal diplomatic ambassadors in order to negotiate the particulars of a final agreement.

Any final agreement should address the following points:

1. The status of Chinese nationals currently within the prefecture-level city;

2. The progress and egress of religious pilgrims;

3. The determination of succession. China should agree to non-interference in the process and decision relative to future Dalai Lamas.

4. Buddhist monks in Dispersion. China should agree that no monk residing outside the boundaries of prefecture-level Lhasa be required to renounce the spiritual authority of the Dalai Lama. Monks in the Dispersion, including the region of China (outside prefecture-level Lhasa) should obey the laws of their host country insofar as these laws do not require a substantial violation of conscience.

5. Lhasa non-military pacifism. Lhasa should agree to a non-military order of civil police to ensure domestic tranquility.

The Dalai Lama derives his spiritual power and authority from God, not from the Land of Tibet. This is proven by the viability of the Dalai Lama in exile. His own popularity and the appeal of his religion have grown in the West. Hence, the greater territory traditionally known as Tibet is not necessary for his continued viability or that of his religion.

THE OLYMPIC SPIRIT

Upon winning the games, the victor Olympiads would be presented with a crown of olive leaves. The olive branch is a sign of hope and peace.

This brief advisory is offered in this spirit.

Is not suffering as a "divine intervention" strategy incompatible with the revealed character of God?

Innocents are already suffering. The goal is to put an end to suffering, not ease it with appeasement. Peace demands justice, and where necessary, a change of conditions. Thus, a Strong Arm is compatible with the character of God.

God does care. As a case in point, consider the strange facts of the Nisqually Quake, which struck Seattle, Washington on February 28, 2001. Although a mere magnitude 6.8 and lasting approximately 45 seconds, it was nonetheless one of the largest recorded earthquakes in Washington State history. Two million people live in the metropolitan area of Seattle, yet there were NO reports of deaths directly from the earthquake. No one died.

The earthquake released a massive amount of energy, enough in fact to heave metropolitan Seattle -- along with its two million inhabitants -- and shift it by two inches. Yet no one was killed. Why? Could it be that the Good Antichrist lived there and rode through the quake with them? In fact he did. Destruction did not rain upon Sodom and Gomorrah until Lot vacated them, after all.

The same God who prompted Moses to subject Egypt to the plagues and the slaughter of all first-born males of man and beast, is the same God of Jesus and Mohammed and Buddha.

Whereas Moses said, "Let my people go"; the New Moses says, "Come out of her, my people".

Conclusion

God will not be mocked with perpetual impunity. There is a Dark Side to the biblical worldview. Love and Justice wed.

God demands allegiance one way or another. He prefers the path of love. But when all else fails, He has no alternative but to resort to harsh measures.

The Good Antichrist desires to create a network of international cities noted for their qualification as the spiritual centers of the world's most important religions.

The Spirit of the Good Antichrist has been active in history toward a pre-determined end.
