If you've been stumped on what to be for Halloween, consider dressing up as Myka. She can seriously kick butt and looks good doing it. This article will give you the how to on how to put together your own Myka Bering Warehouse 13 Halloween costume.
What you'll need:
Photo for inspiration (like the one here)
Long haired dark brown wig (click this link for an example but try to get one slightly shorter or you can opt for this wig here)
Black suit jacket & black suit pants (like the set here but you can buy the pieces separately. You may be able to find the suit pieces at a thrift store, just be sure they're black.
-- Black belt (you can purchase one here for $7.99)
-- Burgundy button up dress shirt
-- Black dress shoes
-- Light pink blush
-- Natural pink lipstick
-- Fake handgun (optional)
Farnsworth (For this, you'll need an old mint tin, bronze paint, gold paint, black permanent marker, red large bead button (with no holes) or bead, two black buttons (one larger then the other), a pearl colored button (with no holes), and a brown button that is larger then the black ones as well as a hot glue gun), picture of Artie (you can print one here), piece of cardboard, stuffing or crumbled paper.
Putting it together:
The first thing that you should do is put together your Farnsworth. As a fan of the show, you know the Farnsworth is important because that's how the Warehouse Crew often communicates with each other. First, take the piece of cardboard and cut it to size so that it will fit inside the tin. Put it aside. Now take the mint tin and use bronze paint to paint the outside as well as the inside. Take the piece of cardboard and spray paint it gold. When everything is dry, take your cardboard gold piece. Go to this web page to see a close up of the Farnsworth (scroll down). Glue your beads exactly how the pieces on the Farnsworth go. Take the black marker and draw little lines so it looks like that is where you hear and talk into. Cut the picture of Artie into a circle shape and glue it at the top of the cardboard so it looks like Artie is communicating with you. Take your stuffing/newspaper and put some inside the tin. Place the cardboard piece in to see if it will fit. You want just enough stuffing/newspaper so that the cardboard piece is placed up to the front but not to much that the tin won't close. Practice until you get it right. Glue the stuffing/newspaper in and then glue the cardboard piece to the stuffing/newspaper. Keep it open all night and people who watch the show will know exactly who you are.
The Myka costume is pretty straight forward. You'll want to get dressed in your clothing. Remember to use the picture of Myka to work with. Leave the suit jacket open. The burgundy shirt should be tucked into the pants with the belt hooked in the front so you can see the gold buckle. Put on your black shoes. Myka has a natural fresh look so use the blush and lipstick sparingly. Put on the wig and run your fingers through it until you get the desired result.
To make the costume more fun, look up lines that Myra says from the show and say them to different people throughout the night.
