Mykonos Grill in Rockville, Maryland - Restaurant Review
Review of the Greek Restaurant Mykonos Grill Outside of Washington, D.C.
When you enter the restaurant you're made to feel like family. The smiling owners in the pictures on the wall are the same ones taking you to your table and chatting with the regulars and other patrons. The interior is warm with white walls and light blue paint, bringing to mind pictures of its island namesake.
The menu consists of authentic Greek fare such as Spanakopitas, feta and spinach stuffed filo-dough pastries and Dolmades, grape leaves wrapped around ground beef and rice. There are appetizers and small tapas dishes which can be split by the table, and there are also many full size entrees as well. Fresh fish, grilled meats and kebabs are plentiful while there are many vegetarian options as well.
The familial vibe from Mykonos extends long past your initial welcoming to the restaurant. Wine glasses are poured with a heavy hand and dinner is served at a casual pace that encourages you to linger. And if you do happen to linger you may just be rewarded with a surprise desert on the house.
The most amazing aspect of Mykonos Grill however is the restaurant's ability to completely mask its suburban shopping mall location. A baseball toss away from busy Rockville Pike, where dreams and souls are crushed via routine traffic jams that eat away hours of your life never to be returned, the scene at Mykonos is idyllic and soothing.
While the outdoor portion of the restaurant consists of a small strip of outdoor tables resting on a concrete sidewalk with a Bed, Bath & Beyond to one shoulder and a Staples on the other, Mykonos manages to provide an escape from the mundane even as it's immersed in it. With gentle music playing in the background, vines and plants growing around you on white fences and trellises and large glasses of wine accompanying the tasty and traditional dishes on your table, if you're not transported to Greece, you're certainly transported out of the zip code.
Mykonos is located at 121 Congressional Lane, just off Rockville Pike in Rockville, Maryland. It's a quick walk from the Twinbrook Metro Station and its official website can be visited at www.mykonosgrill.com. Whether the food, the ambiance or the small touches bring you in, all of them will bring you back.

Post a CommentGood job...
I'm glad this finally got published. I kept trying to open the first notification, but no luck. Wonderful review and I really got the feel for the atmosphere and the food. Too bad it's so far away. I'd definitely eat there! Heavy handed wine pouring... definitely Greek! LOL
