Alfonso Coley
The very first MMA fight held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center on January 30th was a complete success due to the endeavors and management of fight promoter Jay Dennis. The Saturday night fight was a grand sporting event that Myrtle Beach residents have been wanting for a very long time. The MMA amateur matches will breathe new life into a sluggish sports community. Sometime in the near future, the Myrtle Beach community may have something to be proud of, as the next generation of MMA fighters are positioning their self to turn professional in the next few months. The next fight for these MMA Myrtle Beach fighters will be held in Wilmington, North Carolina on February 27th.

Chris Cain is a Conway resident, his Amateur MMA weight class is 145 pounds, which is in the Feather-Weight Division. Chris Cain record is (5-2); his goal for the 2010 season is to turn professional by winning his next two fights. Chris Cain is quite aware that he is in a very competitive weight class - that is why his trainer Jay Dennis has given him some recommendations that will boost his fighting skills and Ju-Jitsu winning techniques.

Jon Owens is a Surfside resident, his Amateur MMA weight class is 145 pounds, and his fighting record is (7-3). Jon Owens fighting skill will only improve in time as he further develops his power and speed skills; this will give him the edge as he faces his next opponent in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Nissen Osterneck is a Myrtle Beach resident, his Amateur MMA weight class is 185 pounds, which is in the Cruiser-Weight Division, and his fighting record is (7-3). Nissen Osterneck is a bright shinning star in the MMA fight game, and if he can commit to his rigorous training schedule, he will have a winning chance of turning pro by defeating his next three opponents.

Tomar Washington is a Myrtle Beach resident, his Amateur MMA record is (3-0), and he is in the Heavy-Weight Division. Tomar Washington has begun his career in bold fashion; his success will depend on how hungry he is to win a pro title in 2011. Tomar may need a few more fight to decide if he does turn professional within the next two months.

Amos Collins is a Little River resident, his Amateur MMA record is (3-0), and he is in the Feather-Weight Division - his fighting weight is 145 pounds. Amos Collins has the fighting skills to succeed in MMA fighting, but he will need to win several more fights to convince the promoters of his fighting skill, and what type of fighter he can become in 2010.

Chris Clark is a Myrtle Beach resident, his Amateur MMA record is (1-2), his fighting weight is 145 pounds which places him in the Feather-Weight Division. Chris Clark has aspirations of turning pro in 2010, his dedication to training and learning more fighting techniques that will prove to be a benefit on how well he can adapt and advance in the 2010 Amateur MMA ranking.

Matt Stewart is a Conway resident, his Amateur MMA record is (1-0), and he is in the Welter-Weight Division, his fighting weight class is 155 pounds. Matt Stewart is in a most competitive weight class, and he knows that in order to turn pro in 2010 will depend on how well he performs in his next five fights; this will determine when he can turn pro in 2010.

This class of 2010 Amateur MMA fighters who represent Myrtle Beach will be the first fighters to represent the sport in South Carolina. Only time will tell which Myrtle Beach MMA Amateur fighters will advance on to become professional in 2010. This is a most electrifying time for these fighters to be a part of this MMA expansion. Myrtle Beach fight promoter Jay Dennis has put together an impressive lot of fighters; it will be exciting to see which MMA fighters will have a successful career - in a sport that will bring much needed excitement to the Myrtle Beach area.
