Lexington, KY: The Kentucky Equality Federation has won the MySpace Impact Award for Social Justice and will receive a $10,000 cash prize.

The MySpace Impact Awards recognize organizations and individuals "making a difference in the world" via the MySpace online platform.

MySpace is the most widely used interactive community portal where users can connect with friends and popular culture through web profiles, video, mobile communications and instant messaging. MySpace has networks in the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, France, Germany, Australia and Ireland.

In a recent press release MySpace CEO and co-founder Chris DeWolfe said "thousands upon thousands of our members are using MySpace as a platform to make a positive impact. The Impact Awards are our way of thanking them and honoring them for leveraging the power of MySpace to do good."

The Impact Awards are given in six categories including Community Building, Health and Safety, Social Justice, Poverty Relief, Environmentalism and International Development. Winners each receive a $10,000 cash prize and promotional support from MySpace.

MySpace defined nominees in the Social Justice category as those "concerned with remedying societal inequalities and protecting the rights of individuals and groups."

The winning organization in the Social Justice category was chosen for its efforts to defend the rights of LGBT Kentuckians and promote equality. The Kentucky Equality Federation implemented dynamic ideas to engage MySpace forum users.

The Kentucky Equality Federation has over 6,000 members and three chapters which operate in Bluegrass, Jackson Purchase, Northern and Southeastern regions of Kentucky. The organization is affiliated with the International Lesbian and Gay Association™, a worldwide network throughout 90 countries dedicated to equal right for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) people.

The Kentucky Equality Federation is a supporter of the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund® and the Military Equality Alliance.

The organization was honored to have even been included in the finalists said Kentucky Equality Federation Treasurer Nancy Couch.

In a statement released to MySpace, Kentucky Equality Federation president Jordan Palmer said "using the MySpace platform to educate the public, communicate with followers, and increase awareness of our organization has made Kentucky Equality Federation successful. We would not have been able to reach the massive number of people and organizations without MySpace."

In a press release the Kentucky Equality Federation saluted MySpace and encouraged other organizations to use "the world's largest social networking website to rally others to your cause."

Runners up in the MySpace Impact Awards Social Justice category were Do Something and Loose Change 2 Loosen Change. Next month's Impact Award category is Health & Safety.
