MySpace Thanksgiving 2008; Creating a Thanksgiving Theme that is Unique, Popular, and All Yours!

Break Away from the Crowd This Holiday Season. Thanksgiving is Just Around the Corner, Make it a Memorable One for All.

Trevor Steele
That wonderful time of year when hedonistic urges take control, school, work and chores are a nothing more than a far off memory. When the weather turns cooler, and people test their jeans to capacity, they take frequent naps, and the turkeys are harder to catch, you will know that Thanksgiving is here.

Why don't you make your 'MySpace' different and unique? You can step out of the crowd and express yourself with fresh ideas and graphics that are individual, new, and different. Just use elements of your own design or from unusual sources. People will be wondering how you did it, let them wonder. Did you know that if you Google the words 'Thanksgiving comments MySpace' you will get 4,560,000 websites? Most offer free assets like graphics, backgrounds, and other gadgets to dress up your MySpace site.

These resources available are plentiful and free, making it hard to choose. Remember though, these readymade materials are what everyone else is using too. Most all "MySpacians" will be using these off the shelf type materials. It is okay for you to use some off the shelf material, as long as it supports your overall scheme.

You will need to pick content that you like and will fit your theme, while expressing yourself. I would suggest that to start with, you can choose items to include and leave others out.

These are some of the elements that I have used; you can select what you want.

1. Comments - Famous, your own, a family member, or someone you admire can be serious or funny. Whatever you choose, make sure it reflects your views and ideas.

2. A Quote can be from famous people, your own self, or maybe a friend.

Example: "Small cheer and great welcome makes a merry feast"

- William Shakespeare

3. Prayer - If you are religious, you can choose a particularly meaningful passage you like related to Thanksgiving. Try to think of different aspects, such as the holiday at your home, the meaning of the holiday, etc If you are not religious, you can find wise saying to quote and use it on your page.

4. Poems - Here is your chance to be creative. Beautiful poems you write, or famous poets, and maybe not so famous poets. If you make it yourself try to make it express your attitude or ideas, it can be deep (your existence) or just funny; you might even relate it to the comments mentioned above. If you use your pen name, no one will know it's you.

Thanksgiving 8000-calorie poem

May your stuffing be tasty

May your turkey plump,

May your potatoes and gravy

have nary a lump.

May your yams be delicious

and your pies take the prize,

and may your Thanksgiving dinner

stay off your thighs!

-Unknown

5. If yYou can think of other elements to include, write it down, but don't over do it. Now as you make plans you can be more specific. Do some brainstorming, sleep on it, then decide. You will get lots of ideas as you ponder and research the other 4 items. The links below can help you get started.

Each of the sites recommended below will have content to use, but there will be links to other sites sites and resources, making it easy to find exactly what you are looking for.

Think Unique!

About.com has a variety of quotes, comments, prayers and many other resources.

Thanksgivingworld.com

Dedicated to all things Thanksgiving. Recipes, humor, trivia, and more. Great source of ideas to make up your text.

WishaFriend.com is a fun site. It has about everything, lots of assets like backgrounds, poems, layouts, even clocks. Do you want to trick your friends? Put an analog clock on your site. Many younger people are not used to analog, making it difficult or impossible to read! Ask them what time it is!

In 1863 Pres. Abraham Lincoln declared that the Thanksgiving holiday would be observed on the last Thursday of November. Previously the time selected was a certain date, which changed the day it would fall on from year to year.
