MySpace Tutorial: How to Delete Comments on MySpace

Commenting your friends' MySpace profiles is one of the best things about MySpace. Quicker than email and out there for everyone to see - MySpace commenting can quickly become addictive. However, there comes a time when you need to delete someone's (i.e. your psycho ex-boyfriend) comments from your profile or maybe you want to delete your comments from someone's (i.e. your psycho ex-boyfriend again) profile. Hey, it happens!

Luckily, deleting MySpace comments is pretty easy. In the time that I've been on MySpace I've noticed that MySpace has been making constant improvements to their site which makes it even easier for you to accomplish any task. Here is everything you ever needed to know about deleting comments on MySpace.

HOW DO I DELETE A COMMENT FROM MY PROFILE?

1) From your MySpace homepage click on "View My Comments". This is located directly below your display pic.

2) You'll be taken to a screen that displays all your comments. Below each comment is a link that says "Delete My Comment".

3) Find the comment that you want to delete and simply click "Delete My Comment".

Since this is your MySpace profile, you have complete control over which comments you want displayed on your page.

HOW DO I DELETE A COMMENT FROM MY FRIEND'S PROFILE?

Remember that the only comments you can delete from a friend's profile are comments that you've made.

1) Go to your friend's profile.

2) In their comments section click on the link that says "View All Comments".

3) Find the comment that you want to delete and simply click "Delete My Comment".

HOW DO I DELETE A COMMENT IF THE "DELETE COMMENT" LINK DOESN'T WORK?

Lately there has been a rash of comments left on MySpace profiles all over that seem to be impossible to delete. I discovered this when I found several of these comments left on my own MySpace profile. After a little digging, I found the solution. The original post on how to delete these comments can be found on my blog, MySpace or Yours.

The spam comment usually looks something like this:

Hey, I can track who visits my profile!
Now you can see everyone who looks at your MySpace page!
Click here to start tracking your profile visitors!

Although the "Delete Comment" link is visible, clicking on the link only leads you back to the same page. Follow these steps to delete the comment completely:

1) Go to your profile and click on the "View All" link at the top of your comment section.

2) Go the comment directly below the one you want to delete and place your cursor on the "Delete Comment" link.

3) Right-click on "Delete Comment" and select "Copy Link Location" - left-click.

4) Now go to your address bar (where you type in web addresses) and right-click then select "Paste". It should look something like this:

5) Don't hit enter just yet, because there's one more thing you have to do -- look in the address bar for "ctl---" (in bold above). You want to change the number so that it reads one number lower than the number there. By changing the number you will delete the comment above (which should be the spam comment). So if the number reads ctl55, change it to read ctl54. Pretty easy, right?

6) Now hit Enter. If you've done everything right, the spam comment should now be gone.

7) Do a little celebratory dance here -- or point your finger at the now deleted spam comment and say, "IN YOUR FACE SUCKA!"

HOW DO I STOP PEOPLE FROM LEAVING COMMENTS ON MY PROFILE?

Here's the thing - no one can leave a comment on your profile unless they're on your friend's list. So the first thing you need to do is check your friend's list and make sure there's no one on there who shouldn't be.

Once you do that, you should change your account settings so that you have to manually approve any comments left on your profile. It literally takes three steps:

1) From your MySpace homepage, go to Account Settings.

2) Choose Privacy Setting from the menu and put a checkmark in the box that says "Comments - approve before posting".

3) Click on "Change Settings" and you're done.

Once you do that, you'll receive a message in your MySpace profile letting you know that someone has left a comment on your page. If it's a spam comment, you can choose to delete it right then and there. If it's a comment from a friend, simply approve it and it will be posted on your page instantly.

Now wasn't that easy?
