So I moseyed on over to Facebook, got an account and then let it sit for months. Why? Because I couldn't figure out how Facebook works.
I suppose that, as with MySpace, it will take some time to learn how to navigate the site.
One thing that I did notice is that Facebook is a lot like Twitter, another networking site. On Twitter, you have up to the minute info on what you are doing. It's the same concept which you can find on Facebook.
I think that much of the problem that people are having with MySpace is that the loading time is super long compared to that of Facebook. Nothing is more irritating than when you want to check a friends' page, then have to wait five minutes for their page to load. Also, what if you want to read their MySpace blogs, well then you have to wait for another page to load, then if you want to make a comment you have to wait even longer.
Also, recently people have been having problems leaving links for certain places like blogger. Reason being that the links are being considered spam. That in itself will drive people away, MySpace is supposed to be a networking website, right?
I still love my MySpace page because I can make it my own with music playlists, picture slide shows and it is truly its name, my space. Facebook seems, to me a lot less personal than MySpace. Most people that I know have both types of accounts, but are mainly using Facebook.
On Facebook one thing I found that I particularly like is that you can post links right there on the home page, making it super easy for all your friends to see what you have posted. This is a plus for anyone trying to get an audience for the links they have posted.
Even after playing with Facebook for a while I am still having trouble figuring out everything on Facebook. However, in time I am sure that it will get easier. It took a long time to figure out how to work MySpace too.
But is is the MySpace craze finally over? Are other networking sites like Facebook and Twitter the new wave of internet socializing? To me, it appears so.
