MySpace's Non-existent Customer Service

Shamontiel
I know that free sites make money from their ads, but do the customer service representatives get paid for helping out? I'm hoping they don't, because if they do, MySpace is wasting major money on the people behind the "Help" button. I've had numerous problems with my MySpace account: my blog counter was incorrect; my messages weren't going through to other members for two weeks; "asp" links wouldn't work; the group that I tried to delete was supposed to be deleted in two days and two weeks later, it's still there; one person had linked my picture to his page and ignored my request to take it off; my sent messages would not delete; my friends were duplicated in the Top list no matter how many times I changed it; the calendar announcements weren't showing up; and the list goes on.

When I would send messages for help, in which Tom clearly says he does not handle website technical issues, I was met with continuous automated answers that had nothing to do with my question. I don't blame Tom for putting a warning up to say he doesn't handle technical issues. If I worked with the people in the technical department, I'd try not to associate myself with them too. This message pops up so much that I'm starting to think it's part of the site: "Sorry! an unexpected error has occurred. This error has been forwarded to MySpace's technical group." When I inquired about why I could not delete sent messages, I was sent a response about how to send a message. My inquiry about my blog counter was met with instructions on how to post a blog. I don't even think they read the messages. They look for keywords and then send the first message that they could copy and paste. The worst response I got was about the asp links, in which a representative told me to "Ask other members on the site-they're friendly so they'll help." That's the equivalent of a passenger asking a train conductor for directions, and the conductor says "Ask one of the passengers-they'll know." The purpose of customer service representatives is to…provide customer service. Who'd have thought? But I guess you get what you pay for, or don't pay for.

To be fair, MySpace has since corrected my blog almost a month later and the duplicate friends list hasn't happened recently. But most of the problems I had on here had to be solved on my own. The weirdo who had posted my picture on his page finally got tired of me bugging him and removed it. I canceled my first page and re-created one in hopes that the problems with people not getting messages wouldn't repeat. As far as I can tell, the Amazon "asp" links still don't work and Amazon.com helped me find an alternate way to add the link that I wanted to add on MySpace. I've given up completely on the calendar announcements. I wouldn't dare ask MySpace's customer service a question again. After all, I know how to read Frequently Asked Questions, even though none of them pertain to the situations I was having. But it's rather disappointing to know that a site this popular would have such terrible customer service, because it reflects badly on the website. Either they don't care because of the popularity they've gained, they naively think they're helping, or the real answers to my questions are encrypted in these automated responses.

Jana, been there (not with the dead relatives, sorry to hear that). But I do recall many MANY times where they'd send me FAQs for something that I'd followed directions for. This is one of the reasons I left. The other one was that I just outgrew MySpace. I haven't been back in at least 5 or 6 months. I had no problem closing my accounts though.

This article is so correct. I've had two close family members die in the past year and in their FAQ it said to send me their obit and their screennames. When I did, they just sent me an EXACT copy of what was in the FAQ telling me to send them a copy of the obit and screennames.

Rita, judging from this message it sounds like you comment before you read anything. I'd strongly suggest you actually read through the FAQs on MySpace to see if you can get the information you're looking for. This is NOT a tech site for MySpace. Read the entry please.

Rita, I no longer have a MySpace account. This entry was just to vent about MySpace. I am not a help desk technician. Please read the article.

@kayla, you sure they deleted it? if you can still see your profile, it's probably not deleted. You probably just can't log in. Email them, and they'll help you get back in.

myspace ownes your profyle, just beause you wanted it deleted or somthing done to it mysapce has in the TOS that the asume all rights to your pic's and commits. so in fact they owne your profyle, and you legaly dont have the right to delete it if they dont want you to. so ya once your profyle is on there webpage and you are unable to verrfie the infrmation they want or they dont want to delete it, they legaly can give you the finger and that is what happed to me. i requested to have it deleted, and they just shut me out of my page, so i had to make a other one. that is what you agree to when you sighn up and you agree to allow thelm to change the tos any time they wish..
