When the player first wakes up there is a boom box made out of stone but once touched it actually begins to work. The surf comes in and drops seashells all over the sandy beach. To play the game you have to find specific shells that they game shows to you on the bottom of the screen.
There are lots of different levels in the game but there are large islands to visit and collect shells before you can win the game. To beat a level, the point goal of each round has to be reached. To reach a goal simply collect the different shells that is wanted. Bonus points are given when more than one of the same shell is collected one after another without breaking the chain. Also finding shells that match different silhouettes will you a lot of extra points.
There is a hint button that can be used in the game but once it is used, it takes a few minutes to warm up before a player can use it again. Players have to find the shells in each round quickly because there is a time limit in the bottle middle of the screen and once the sea counter goes down to zero, you will need to start the game over.
When first starting the game, there is a choice to play a short game or the long story version. With the short game you are just playing to collect shells and you can end the game whenever you want to and start at another time. With the story version of the game you are collecting shells to get further in the game to answer the questions of how you came to the island, what are those voices you are hearing and where are the giggling children that you hear when you listen to a seashell?
The game play of Mystery of Shark Island is smooth and there should not be any freezing motions of the game. The game could be a bit longer but it is fun collecting the shells and figuring out the mysteries of the island. Mystery of Shark Island is a fun game that stands on its own makes you lose hours at time when just sit down to play for a few minutes. I would definitely recommend this game.
